Fitness Rooms – Your questions answered….
When can I use the facilities?
In most cases the rooms are open daily, some 24 hours a day so invariably you will have the facility to yourself. Having said this it is sometimes better to rendezvous with other members to give each other encouragement during your workout. The choice is yours.
Who may use the facilities?
Club members
You must be a member of the Club to use the facilities. Some of the Gyms like Preston require an additional nominal member fee to be paid. Most require a form to be completed to ensure that you understand the rules and conditions covering the daily use of the fitness rooms.
Spouse or Partner
Some divisional sites allow this but most stipulate that the full member must be present at the same time.
Special Constables’, Community Volunteers and Retired Club Members
Again, many divisions allow these ‘honorary members’ to use the facilities. Retired members must obtain a station Visitor Pass each time they visit.
Health and Safety
To maintain these fitness rooms across the force it is essential that we ensure health and safety regulations are complied with. Here are some of the more common rules that must be observed before and when using our fitness rooms:
Ensure you are familiar with the safe use of the equipment before commencing any fitness training – contact your divisional representative who will carry out a short induction session with you if required.
The members themselves are responsible for the day to day running of these fitness rooms so keep the environment clean and tidy at all times.
Free weights and other small items of equipment – Ensure they are stowed away correctly after use and not left lying around on the floor.
Report any defects in the equipment to your fitness room representative.
If you are in any doubts about engaging in physical fitness training then contact your GP for advice.
If you haven’t done physical training for some time then progress gradually over a period of weeks.
