Athletics & Running Sports Section British Police Fell Championships 2004 Conway Valley, North Wales - June Report by Lancashire competitor, Paul Johnson The venue and course and was organised by the North Wales Police. It was a testing 10 mile route. The course was a figure of eight, undulating fell course, setting off from the National trust car park. A short downhill stretch on the road before climbing to the top of the first fell. There was a muddy rough run down through a forest and onto a forest road and back to the start before an ascent and a drop down to a lake. You then ran alongside the lake, stumbling through tree roots at the waters edge (OK if you had the feet of a bally dancer!) There was then a tough climb up to another high before a long run down a forest track to the start. It was a glorious day with ideal conditions. There was even a stream to swill off adjacent to the car park. Good grub then followed in a local hostelry. Incidentally they took the food orders as we lined up to set off, so at least we knew what we were getting. Lancashire Men's Team, Mike Riley and Paul Johnson (Central Division), Chris Shaw (Pennine Division) and Phil Corris (Northern Division) were evenly spread in 8, 12, 20 and 36th positions out of the field of 50. Their aggregate score brought home a tremendous 3rd team place overall. | Pos | Name | Force | Category | Time | | | | | | | | 1 | Malcolm Fowler | Cheshire | V.40 | 63.36 | | 2 | Karl Webster | Derbyshire | | 64.57 | | 3 | Andy Dunnerdale | Lincolnshire | | 67.46 | | 4 | Craig Jones | North Wales | | 68.08 | | 5 | Andrew Beaty | Cumbria | V.45 | 68.19 | | 6 | Nigel Bedell | West Yorkshire | | 71.21 | | 7 | Richard Unwin | Cumbria | V.45 | 71.25 | | 8 | Mike Riley | Lancashire | | 74.59 | | 9 | Myles Robertson | Cheshire | | 75.40 | | 10 | Steve Heaney | North Wales | V.40 | 75.56 | | 11 | Martin Wood | Lincolnshire | V.45 | 76.20 | | 12 | Paul Johnson | Lancashire | V.45 | 76.47 | | 13 | Tony Price | West Midlands | V.40 | 77.01 | | 14 | Rupert Venables | Cheshire | | 77.11 | | 15 | David Owens | North Wales | | 77.17 | | 16 | Bob Salter | Wiltshire | V.45 | 77.30 | | 17 | Matthew Hand | Dyfed Powys | V.50 | 77.37 | | 18 | Neil Coppick | North Wales | | 77.50 | | 19 | Neil Dutton | West Yorkshire | | 78.28 | | 20 | Chris Shaw | Lancashire | V.40 | 79.37 | | 21 | Adrian Allsopp | West Midlands | | 79.46 | | 22 | James Oliver | Nottinghampshire | | 80.03 | | 23 | Ian Jackson | Derbyshire | V.40 | 81.47 | | 24 | Christine Howard | Derbyshire | Lady | 82.14 | | 25 | Thomas Prytherch | North Wales | | 83.04 | | 26 | David Steer | Dyfed Powys | | 83.42 | | 27 | Sarah Simmons | Metropolitan | Lady | 83.45 | | 28 | Elizabeth Cameron | Metropolitan | Lady | 83.45 | | 29 | John Leach | Warwickshire | V.60 | 83.46 | | 30 | Andy Parker | Staffordshire | V.55 | 84.40 | | 31 | Ian Smith | North Wales | V.40 | 85.18 | | 32 | Mark Hobson | North Wales | | 85.34 | | 33 | Andrew Stokes | Cumbria | V.50 | 87.05 | | 34 | Liam O'Brien | North Wales | V.40 | 87.13 | | 35 | Bernard May | West Midlands | V.45 | 87.17 | | 36 | Phil Corris | Lancashire | V.45 | 87.34 | | 37 | Steve Quinn | Greater Manchester | | 88.56 | | 38 | Bob Hind | North Wales | V.50 | 89.20 | | 39 | Steve Pilbeam | North Wales | V.45 | 92.46 | | 40 | Owain Llewelyn | North Wales | | 95.13 | | 41 | Jim Titterton | Derbyshire | V.60 | 95.32 | | 42 | Peter Guillaume | Warwickshire | V.50 | 96.49 | | 43 | Paul Welsh | Cheshire | V.45 | 98.00 | | 44 | Dave Leitch | Staffordshire | | 101.19 | | 45 | Paul Scarff | Warwickshire | V.45 | 101.19 | | 46 | Harriett Sibbick | Warwickshire | Lady | 101.19 | | 47 | Dave Wood | Greater Manchester | V.40 | 102.44 | | 48 | Ian Bancroft | North Wales | | 104.30 | | 49 | Jacqui Reid | Metropolitan | Lady | 136.50 | | 50 | Heather Mitchell | West Yorkshire | Lady.V50 | 141.32 | | 51 | Kevin Loftus | Derbyshire | V.45 | ret |
