Northern Police Cross Country League

About the League

The Northern Police Cross Country League has eight fixtures starting in October through to March. The races are hosted by a different police force and staged at venues within the respective north of England force areas. The forces eligible to compete in the Northern League are:-

Cheshire

Cleveland

Cumbria

GMP

Humberside

Lancashire

North Wales

North Yorkshire

South Yorkshire

West Yorkshire

Eligible forces but not currently represented:-

Atomic Energy

BTP

Durham

Merseyside

Northumbria

The League secretary would be interested to re-kindle runners from these non-participating forces.

Fixtures

The races are generally held over interesting and varied cross county terrain. Four miles for women and six miles for men. Each host provides adequate changing facilities, showers and a hot meal following.

The league is challenging and competitive and has produced some excellent, talented cross country runners over the years. Notwithstanding this the league provides and excellent opportunity for any standard of runner to take part as there are no entry standards required.

The races are held on a Wednesday afternoon and give those attending an opportunity at the very least to take part in a mid-week event that forms the basis of good all-round winter training.

Entry Requirements

Competitors must be:-

Serving or retired police officers or police staff

Members of the special constabulary, community volunteers

Other police employees under direct control of the force Chief Constable

Guest Runners

The League is closed to other club runners or organisations. However guests from local clubs or other service organisations like the fire or prison service have sometimes competed by arrangement.
