PAA 10 Mile Road Race Championships

The annual National Police Athletic Association 10 mile road race championships were hosted by Lothian & Borders Police in Edinburgh on 11 September 2002.

 

A contingent of 16 Lancashire athletes travelled to the event that took place over a relatively flat, point to point course along the Forth coastline.

 

Fine, sunny but warm conditions greeted 280 police officers and support staff representing 30 UK police forces.

 

Lancashire runners put in a series of fine performances with PC Alison Crook (Southern Division) winning the ladies race in a time of 58'.47".

 

Western Division's PC Darren Hale gave a tremendous performance coming 2nd overall in a time of 50'.56".

 

In the team events the ladies swept the board winning both the 'Open' and 'Veteran 35+' events!

 

PC Alison Crook, PC Fiona Benn (Central Division) (64'.15") and PC Cara Noone (Northern Division) (74'.59") made a first ever ladies Open team victory for Lancashire.

 

DC Adele Brookbanks (Northern Division)(75'.59"), Ms Shirley Worrall (HQ) (77'.05") and Ms Julie Yates (HQ) (84'.37") gave Lancashire a first ever Veteran ladies victory.

 

PS Dave Tonge (Southern Division) was placed 14th overall and 4th Veteran 40+ with a pb time of 56'.37".

 

Ms Sue Harrison (HQ) just missed a Ladies Veteran 45+ prize being place 4th ina time of 92'.57".
