PAA Track & Field Championships

Exeter

Wednesday 4 July 2002

A medley of gold, silver and bronze medals were scooped by some of the forces finest athletes earlier this month. Eight members attended the annual Police Athletic Association track and field championships hosted by Devon and Cornwall Police in Exeter.

PC Jason Lobo, Pennine Division ran a rather rapid 800 metres in 1 minute 55 seconds winning the gold medal.

PC John Wiggans of Central Division, the forces star jumper, competed in the long, triple and high jump events. John won the gold medal in the high jump with 1.80 metres and won silver medals in the triple and long jumps.

PC Alison Crook won two bronze medals in the women's 1500 metres and 5000 metres events.

The last event of the day was the men's medley relay that comprise 800 x 200 x 200 x 400 metre disciplines. PC Jason Lobo steamed ahead to gain a 100 metre lead handing comfortably over to veteran runners DC Dave Watkinson, Southern Division, then in turn to PC Steve Broadbent, Northern Division.

Despite the two veterans being 'non-sprinters' they maintained a 3rd
position with PC John Wiggans completing the final 400 metres to win four bronze medals.

Both Jason Lobo and John Wiggans qualified to take part in the European Police championships to be held in Poland in August.
