Braving temperatures of 36 degrees, two of the Constabularies top athletes succeeded in winning five silver medals in the National Police Sport UK Track and Field Championships.

The event held at Newport Stadium, Gwent on one of the hottest days on record saw many of the UK's top police athletes compete in a variety of track and field disciplines.

Community Beat Managers PC John Wiggans based at Fulwood, Preston and PC Beckie Herbert based at Blackpool both competed in the Long, Triple and High Jump events.

John jumped season bests in all three events winning silver medals in each. Beckie also won silver medals in the triple and high jump events.

Also competing for the force in a variety of track events were PC's Ian Pudge (3K Steeplechase), Steve Broadbent (3k Walk, Steeplechase, 5k, 1500m) David Watkinson (3k Walk and 5K). Ms Susan Harrison and Ms Gail Hickson (5K). All braved the hot 90 degree temperatures and finished in respectable times.
