Athletics & Running Sports Section Police Sport UK Track & Field Championships Stanley Park, Blackpool - Wednesday 18 July 2007 Final Briefing The Lancashire Constabulary Athletics Section is pleased to host the 2007 Police Sport UK Track & Field and Tug of War Championships. Here are the final briefing details of the event that will whet your appetite as to what is in store.
Entries: Response this year has been excellent. So far we have a total of 161 confirmed entries from athletes representing 28 UK police forces. A total of 316 individual track and field events have been entered.
In addition, we have five force Tug of War teams comprising 9 men. Individual entries and all event details are available to view on-line at www.policesport.org Event Venue: The track events will be staged at Stanley Park Stadium, Stanley Park Blackpool. The stadium, track and field facilities are all of a high standard.
Travel: You should now have your transport plans in place. Most forces will be attending by road. Directions to the venue hotel and Stadium are detailed below – the hotel is marked with green arrow. For satellite navigation users the Post Codes of the two venues are:

Transport: By road: All directions M6 then M55 into Blackpool.
By rail: The West Coast main line to Preston then local service to Blackpool North.
By air: Blackpool (Cheap Ryanair Stansted service) Manchester and Liverpool.
By sea: Seaport at Heysham or Liverpool.
Courtesy pick-ups: Will be provided from and to Blackpool North Rail Station and Blackpool Airport. Please ring me to make arrangements if you are arriving by train or plane and require transport.
Event HQ and Main Accommodation Venue: The main event hotel will be the De Vere at Herons’ Reach Hotel, East Park Drive, Blackpool. This is located just walking distance from the Stanley Park Stadium. We have 75 twin/double rooms booked. The hotel is now full.
Meals: Breakfast is included with the De Vere accommodation package. A lunch pack will be provided to all competitors on the event day.
De Vere Facilities: This hotel is a four star with first class facilities including swimming pool, gymnasium, squash, tennis courts and golf course. Remember to bring your Speedos.
Late Entries and Changes: To allow maximum flexibility we will allow additional entries, substitutions and changes up to 11 am 18 July. (This is now subject to lane availability in the track events)
Event Program: An official Police Sport UK event program will be available on arrival at the De Vere Hotel or at registration. This will contain any additional information, timetable of events and entry lists.

Map - Directions from the De Vere to the Stadium
Stanley Park Stadium: The Stadium is a ten minute walk from the De Vere. (See map) The Stadium car park is located just off West Park Drive adjacent to Blackpool Sports Centre.
Changing Facilities: Usual changing and shower facilities are located directly behind the stadium. Please do not leave any valuables unattended in these areas.
Event Control Point: The event control will be located in a small marquee tent that will be sited by the trackside.
Challenge Trophies: These must be returned engraved, in a clean and polished condition to either:
De Vere Hotel event contact point on 17 July.
Stanley Park Stadium Event Control by 11.30 hrs on the 18 July.
Event Registration: Registration will open at 10am when your events should be declared and race numbers will be issued. This must be done by each individual athlete.
Rules of the Event: Police Sport UK and UK (a) Rules apply. Copies of these will be available at race control on the day. Official Force Club vests must be worn by all competitors.
Massage, Sports Therapy and First Aid: We will have our own sports therapist on site in the stadium from 10am onwards to attend to any injuries or complaints. First aid support will also be available.
Event Mementos and Lunch Packs: An event pack will be distributed to each individual athlete at event control. This should be collected individually.
Other refreshments: Water and sports drinks will be available all day. Additional food and drink may be obtained from the Sports Centre or the Park Café located close by.
Event Start: Men’s and Ladies’ track and field events start at 11.30 hours through to approximately 17.30 hours. The Tug of War weigh-in is at 11.00 am.
Event Timetable: This is detailed in Appendix ‘A’ below. These times are now confirmed as definite but may be subject of minor changes on the day.
Awards, medals and mementos: The usual annual Police Sport UK trophies will be presented by our VIP’s at the trackside following the completion of each event.
Athletics - Gold, silver and bronze medals will also be awarded in every event category.
Tug of War - Gold medals will be awarded in each Tug of War event. Silver medals will also be awarded in the ‘Catch weight’ event.
Event Closure: The last event should conclude at 17.30 hours.
Event Gala Dinner: 7pm onwards in the De Vere Hotel. This will be followed by after dinner speaker and a disco until 1 am.
We appreciate one or two forces have been accommodated elsewhere. We are happy to provide courtesy minibus transport to and from the De Vere to avoid driving.
