Race Report

This event was hosted by our near neighbours at a venue just over the Lancashire border. Twelve Lancashire officers competed in these National Cross-country Championships. A tough, undulating course was on offer over sand dunes and through  woodland.

PC Alison Crook - Skelmersdale - was sadly pipped at the post by a Central Scotland police runner who pushed Alison into 4th place over the last 100 metres. Nevertheless a commendable performance was had.

PC Fiona Benn - Preston - was 17th with Ms Julie Yates - Professional Standards, Shirley Worrell - Legal Dept and Sue Harrison - Road Policing taking up the remaining team.

In the men's race, PS Dave Tonge - Ormskirk - was in a commendable 23rd position out of 250 backed up by PC Rod Graham - Rawtenstall, PC Steve Broadbent - Lancaster - Mr Geoff Fox - Finance - DC David Watkinson - Penwortham, PC Steve Bycroft - Skelmersdale, PC Michael Horne - Dolphinholme.

Many of the team are now undergoing intense training for the PAA Marathon Championships that are to be held in Belfast in May. The ladies are hopeful for a team place with PC's Alison Crook, Fiona Benn, Cara Noone and Ms Julie Yates now preparing for the 26 mile run around Belfast City.
