Could Lancashire Constabulary win the 'UK Sporting Super
Cop' 2006?
The Lancashire Constabulary Club have now selected one male and one female club member to compete in the inaugural
Police Sport UK 'Sporting Super Cop' event to be held on 3 and 4 May
2006.
Male contestants:
PC Andrew Thornhill - HR HQ
Female contestants:
PC Lisa Griffin - Support Unit - Western Division
PC Beckie Herbert - Western Division
PC Jeanette Wilson - Northern Division
There was only one male entry from the
whole force - this was a rather disappointing response considering the
amount of fit male members of the force that would be clearly capable of
fulfilling the required sporting criteria set.
More reassuringly we had three female entries.
The three ladies were put head to head at a one hour assessment held at
Hutton Hall on 17 March. PC Lisa Griffin won her place through to the
national final with PC Herbert and Wilson giving commendable challenge
performances.
PC Andrew Thornhill was 'unchallenged' and was
given a 'buy' through to the national finals.

Event
The National final competition will take place
at the Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk. The two selected individuals from the Lancashire
force will be given funding for travel, meals and accommodation.
The event will test the sporting skills and
abilities in a variety of disciplines. Some compulsory and some of choice.
Points will be scored in each event to eventually determine the male and
female UK 'Sporting Super Cop'.
It is hoped that nearly every police force in
the UK will put forward their pre-selected entries to take part in this two
day event in May.
Briefly, the disciplines will be as follows:
Compulsory
Running
Netball
Gym
Golf
Choice Events
Darts
Indoor Rowing
Rugby
Archery
Football
Sprinting
Pool
Tennis
More disciplines may be added nearer the
time.
