Could you be the 'UK Sporting Super
Star Cop' 2007?
Police Sport UK are
seeking to find a Super Star in sporting terms, the event will be based on
the BBC TV Superstars competition. It is a national competition open to all
forces. Police Sport UK is aware that a large number of it’s member do not
participate in traditional team sports such as soccer and cricket but do
have a active sporting lifestyle using local gymnasiums to keep fit. It is
these members we hope to attract into this concept.
Each force will be invited
to enter one male and one female competitor to the National Super cops event
to be held over 2 days on the 8rd and 9th of May
2006. Forces with strength over 7,000 will be allowed to enter two
participants and the Metropolitan Police service up to four.
It is open to both Police officers and Police staff serving
or retired is accordance to the constitution of Police Sport UK
The events that make up
Supercops will be selected from those are outlined below
An age related bonus
points will also be added to participant’s scores.
The rules have been kept
very simple so no training will be required.
THE EVENTS (so far)
GOLF
‘The football pitch chip’
5 balls each from the ‘T’
chipping at the pin on the green a hole in one scores 15 points. If the ball
fails to find the hole it will be scored as follows 10 points for within 1
metre, 9 points for within 2 metres, 8 points for within 3 metres, etc. to 1
point for within 10 metres. Off the green no score.
DARTS
‘One bed
only’
9 darts each. Each player
attempts to score as high as possible with 9 darts. No bed can be used
twice. A second or further dart in a bed already used counts as a minus to
be subtracted from that throwers score.
RUNNING
‘How far
can you run?’
Each sets own treadmill
speed and can adjust it as they run. The challenge is to run as far as
possible in 10 minutes.
ROWING
‘How far
can you row?’
Using Concept II Rowers.
Resistance set at 10. Scoring as for Treadmill Run, how far can you row in
10 minutes.
RUGBY
‘Can you
kick it?’
Attempt to kick a
conversion from 10 metres then 20m, 30m, 40m and 50m. 10/20/30/40/50 points
are awarded for successful kicks. If no rugby posts are available the cross
bar on a football goal can be used.
ARCHERY
‘Can you hit the
target’
Total score from five
shots at the target
NETBALL
‘Round
the clock’
Each has Seven shots to
progress as far around the key as they can, shooting from the markers. Score
1 point for each successful shot with 10 bonus points for completing all
five.
FOOTBALL
‘Dribble
‘n’ shoot’
Five balls each. Each
attempt starts on the centre spot. The player dribbles through ten cones
each 2 metres apart before proceeding to the ‘D’ of the penalty area to
shoot at a cone on the goal line, The player sprints back to the centre
circle to go again with the next ball. Each player is competing against the
clock. If the shot misses the cone there is a 5 second penalty for each one
missed. If a player misses a cone while dribbling there is 5 second penalty
for each one missed.
BIATHLON
‘No
skis, no snow, no rifle’
The Biathlon is run over
four minutes. The course is the white line which marks the penalty area on a
football pitch. The player starts at the right hand goal post and runs
around the line as fast as possible until back under the goal bar. From
there, he/she will throw 3 bean bags (separately) into bin 10 metres behind
the goal. For each bag that misses, they must run a penalty lap around the
white line marking the 6 yard box before being able to throw the next bean
bag. The winner will be the player with the most bean bags in the bin at the
end of four minutes.
SPRINTING
‘There
and back’
Sprint from the goal line
to the next goal line and back to the centre line (Approx 150 meters)
against the clock.
GYM TEST
‘Maximums’
There are four stations,
Press Ups, High Knees, Abdominal Chinnies and Burpees. Every player attempts
all four stations.
Press Ups are to failure.
Any breathers, pauses or breaks count as failure.
High Knees are total
completed in 60 seconds. Thigh must go parallel to the ground. Each foot
strike counts as one. Breathers are allowed but the clock keeps running.
Abdominal Chinnies are to
failure. Any breathers, pauses or breaks count as failure.
Burpees are total
completed in 60 seconds. The feet must leave the ground on each jump. The
legs must fully extend for backward drive phase. Breathers are allowed but
the clock keeps running.
The organisers may well
amend or change details of the event in order to ensure the smooth running
of the event.
