2005

By Secretary PS Jim Boothby

For the season of 2005 members from the club competed at 3 competitions on a regional basis.

During June 10 members fished in a 3 day boat competition at Rutland with opposition provided by Cheshire Constabulary and the Grey’s international teams. The Lancashire teams performed well in a pairs basis and the event was won by Andy Baldwin and partner from Pennine Division with a total of 42 fish. The event is organised by the Pennine Division fishing representative, Dave Milburn. Any interested parties should contact Dave at Eastern Division PPU.

Lancashire submitted three teams for the National police pairs competition held at Draycote in October. The day is well attended by all forces and this year Cheshire Constabulary sent 12 teams and not surprisingly ended up winning. Best finisher was Insp John Puttock for Lancashire.

For the rest of the year members fished in conjunction with Divisional competitions with matches held at Stocks Reservoir, Esthwaite water and Ladybower Reservoir.

Any members wishing to be kept in touch with the organised events for the forthcoming years can contact Jim Boothby on (Int) 415783.

Colne Water Angling Club

The club owns a membership ticket for the practice facilities available on this water and during the year 32 members used the facilities throughout the year. Application has been successful for this coming year and the facilities will be available for 2006.  Any member wishing to fish the facility should contact me to ensure availability as the water has limited numbers allowed. New members are welcome to make use of the facilities as a means of getting back into or interested in the sport and visits can be arranged with some members to assist novices. The club owns 2 still waters at Sabden and Colne both being stocked with Rainbow Trout.  There is a security gate on the Sabden facility and the code can be obtained from me or Dave Milburn prior to visiting.

For the season of 2004 members from the club competed at 4 competitions on a regional basis and one member competed for a national affiliated team.

During June 12 members fished in a 3 day boat competition at Rutland. This is an organised event which has been running for 10 years and is self funded for officers outside Pennine Division. This year there has been much interest in the competition which is organised by the Pennine Division fishing representative, Dave Milburn. Any interested parties should contact Dave at Eastern Division PPU.

For the matches for the rest of the year the following venues were visited:

July 12th Tuesday  Esthwaite reservoir. The first match of the year due to a diary error was attended by 10 members who completed a successful match by boating 37 fish to a total of 63lbs. This regular match is reported on the fishery monthly report in the national fishing press.

August 12th  Thursday Stocks reservoir boat fishing Versus Cheshire Constabulary. The Constabulary fielded a team of 10 who fished in adverse weather conditions for most of the day with high winds and driving rain. Returns were low for both teams and a total of 19 fish for Lancashire was beaten by Cheshire with a total of 25.

September 20th Thursday  Barnsfold lake at Goosnargh hosted the Lancsashire police Northwest Open which saw an entry field of 25 including many retired officers. This event is a bank match to allow access for all as space is often limited at smaller waters. Again high winds made fishing difficult but members persevered for a return of 13 fish.

2003

By Secretary PS Jim Boothby

During 2003 the HQ team joined with Divisional teams to extend the number of matches.

April 2003 – Stocks Reservoir. In conjunction with Pennine Division a boat match was held involving 8 members. HQ won the match with a clean sweep of top two boats and a total of 16 officers fishing. Funding was by members' contribution for this occasion.

May 2003 – Esthwaite Reservoir.  Again held with members contributions and a match rearranged due to the withdrawal of funding from HQ. 12 members attended with officers having a successful day including PS John Puttock and DC Dave Milburn managing to win the day over the second team of C/Insp Richard Morgan and PC Ian Dickinson.

20 June 2003 - The annual PAA regional qualifier at Llyn Brenig. Lancashire entered teams for the individual and team qualifiers against the number one region competitors but for the first time in 9 years we failed to proceed to the regional or national qualifiers. A close match with time bonus being the final killer element as Cheshire officers made full use of their local Knowledge to win the competition.

21 August 2003 - The match was cancelled due to lack of funding.

5 September 2003 - Lancashire V's Cheshire/Merseyside at Stocks. A fine days competition with Lancashire beating Cheshire in a close fought match. The team of 6 for Lancashire managed 24 fish for 55lbs beating Cheshire by 12lbs overall.

National Police Pairs – Lancashire entered two teams into this prestigious competition which has been well attended for many years now. During a match which was under threat from high winds Lancashire top boat was 4th placed and the individual winner of best fish was PS James Boothby with a rainbow trout of 10lbs 2oz.

Colne Water Angling Club - The club owns a membership ticket for the practice facilities available on this water and during the year 23 members used the facilities throughout the year. Application has been successful for this coming year and the facilities will be available for 2004.

Whitemore - Sadly due to funding and lack of use Whitemoor will no longer be available to members.

Next seasons matches are in the process of being organised but the initial match will be at Esthwaite Reservoir on Thursday 25th March starting at 10am. Details will shortly be published to all members.

2002

By Secretary DC Dave Milburn

Well done to Dave Hodson who following his success in the 2001 PAA regional qualifier, fished in the 2002 National and International championships.

Congratulations to Chris Dzideck (retired) who came second overall in the 2002 PAA No1 region qualifier at Lynn Brenig and as a result will represent Lancashire at the National championships and England in the International championship events during the 2003 season.

The current fly fishing secretary will be resigning at the end of the 2003 season. At present there are no volunteers coming forward to run the club. Any interested parties please contact DC Dave Milburn. If nobody volunteers then regrettably the club will fold at HQs PAA and Sectional level. This will be a great shame as for the past few years Lancashire Officers have consistently managed to qualify and compete at National and International level.

2001

By Secretary DC Dave Milburn

This 74 strong sports section clearly proves that the sport is popular with an increasing membership of retired personnel. The team was placed 2nd in the PAA Regional Qualifier. In the same event PS Hodson from Pennine Division qualified to fish the PAA Nationals and has gone through to qualify for the International event to be held in 2002.

PS Jim Boothby was the 'troutmaster' qualifier netting the 'biggest fish' of the season.
