PSUK Round -
Leeds - August 2004
Leeds was the location
where the ladies from the Constabulary hockey team showed the rest of the
country they are a force to be reckoned with. After a disappointing
performance last season, the team was keen to get some practice in early on
with a trip to the Police National Hockey Championships.
Drawn in a tough section
with seasoned competitors GMP, Thames Valley and Lothian & Borders,
Lancashire raised their games remaining unbeaten throughout the first days
play.
Next day saw Lancashire
square up to local rivals and last years winners Merseyside in a closely
fought semi-final. Goals from Lisa Griffin and Liz Whittaker along with
some superb saves by goalie Bev Taylor secured a 2-1 victory and well
deserved place in the final.
Lothian & Borders were
the opposition in the first final Lancashire had ever reached in this
event. It was a very close affair with the Scots finally breaking the
deadlock five minutes from full time with a harsh penalty stroke decision
which Bev Taylor narrowly missed to gave them a 1-0 win.
