By Secretary DC Helen Knaggs Lancashire Constabulary reached the Quarter Final stage of last seasons PSUK Ladies Hockey Competition, they were drawn against the Metropolitan Police, and this fixture was played early January 2005 at Blackpool. The result was a win for the visitors 4-1 with Captain Wendy Jacobs scoring Lancashire’s goal. Lancashire entered the Police National 11 a side Hockey Championships which this season was held over weekend 20th & 21st August 2005 at Manchester. Our team performed very well over the weekend eventually running out winners of the Ladies Plate Competition. On Saturday 20th August the Ladies competition was split into two sections, Lancashire were drawn in Section B with Merseyside, Northumbria, Strathclyde and South Yorkshire the results were as follows: Northumbria 0 v Lancashire 1
Lancashire 0 v Strathclyde 0
Lancashire 0 v Merseyside 2
South Yorks 1 v Lancashire 1
These results saw Lancashire 3rd in their section on goal difference and they then went into the Plate Competition on the Sunday. This then gave Lancashire 5 hard games against the following teams, Northumbria, GMP, Strathclyde, Met Police and Thames Valley the results were as follows: Lancs 2 v Northumbria 0
Lancs 1 v GMP 0
Strathclyde 0 v Lancs 0
Met 0 v Lancs 1
Lancs 3 v Thames Valley 1
Lancashire Ladies were crowned Plate WINNERS at the Presentation Dinner after the competition and the Shield was collected by PC Wendy Eastham (Eastern) and PC Lisa Dunne (Central). The Shield is displayed behind HQ Bar. PSUK Ladies Hockey Championship 2005/06 has begun and Lancashire have had just the one tie. Their Round 1 away game against North Wales was forfeited by North Wales which meant Lancashire were drawn in the Second Round at home to Lothian & Borders Police. This fixture took place on Tuesday 29th November 2005, a very cold day with the original pitch at Leyland being ruled unfit at the last minute. A replacement pitch was found locally and the tie took place with Lothian & Borders winning 3-0. Lancashire now enters the PSUK Ladies Plate Competition and don’t now expect to play until Jan 2006. The Ladies Hockey Section are always on the look out for new players, eligible players are Police Officers, Police Support Staff including PCSO and now members of the Special Constabulary as long as they subscribe to Lancashire’s Sports & Social Club. For any further details please contact Helen Knaggs, full details are held on the Sports & Social Club Web Site. By Secretary DC Helen Knaggs Due to Lancashire’s early exit from the PSUK Ladies Hockey Competition 2003/04 Lancashire played in the local 7 a side summer league held at Longridge Sports Centre, this competition ran from April until August 2004. Although results were not as good as the previous season a nucleus of 9 players regularly attended each Wednesday with the following results 4 wins, 8 losses and 1 draw. The Police National 11 a side Hockey Championships were held over weekend 14th & 15th August 2004 at Leeds. The Lancashire Ladies Hockey Section entered a team and performed very well. The Ladies Competition was split into two sections Lancashire were drawn in Section B with Thames Valley, Lothian & Borders, Durham and GMP the results were as follows: Lancashire 1 v Thames Valley 1 Durham 0 v Lancashire 2 Lancashire 2 v GMP 2 Lancashire 0 v Lothian & Borders 0 These results saw Lancashire runners up in their section, which saw them drawn in a Semi Final tie with archrivals Merseyside the next morning. This was a bruising encounter and with some very good defending including several outstanding saves from GK Bev TAYLOR and two well taken early goals by Lisa Griffin and Karen Nuttall saw Lancashire into the Final. Merseyside 1 v Lancashire 2 The final was a very close affair against Lothian & Borders who came out winners to a very harsh penalty stroke decision which Bev Taylor only just failed to keep out. Final Result Lancashire 0 v Lothian & Borders 1 A superb weekend and a result we could not have dreamed of. The PSUK Ladies Hockey Championship 2004/05 has begun and Lancashire have had two home ties. On 9th November 2004 Lancashire played Strathclyde Police at Stanley Park, Blackpool in the 1st round, which Lancashire won 4-2 scorers Jo Orry x 2 Wendy Eastham x 1 and Karen Nuttall x1. On 16th December 2004 Lancashire played local rivals GMP at Leyland in the 2nd round and won 4-0 scorers Wendy Eastham x 3 and Jayne Ashton x 1. Lancashire are now waiting to find out who their Quarter Final opponents will be as the Metropolitan Police have to play Northamptonshire Police. By Secretary PC Helen Knaggs The PSUK Hockey season runs from September to April therefore I will report on the end of last season's competition and results to date: In early March 2003 Lancashire's intended home tie with HAMPSHIRE in the Plate quarterfinals was cancelled due to the opposition being unable to field a team and the tie was awarded to LANCASHIRE. This set up an away semi-final fixture with NORTH WALES. LANCASHIRE after a slow start and going behind to a messy goal pulled themselves together playing some fine hockey resulting in an impressive 3-1 win and putting themselves into the Plate Final which was to be held alongside the National Final in the West Midlands. In early APRIL 2003 LANCASHIRE travelled to Egbaston and took part in the PAA Plate Final against NORTHAMPTONSHIRE POLICE the previous winners. This was the first time the Ladies Hockey Section had reached a Final since their PAA Final back in 1994. Lancashire started slowly and defended solidly for most of the first half. At Half Time the score was level 0-0. Lancashire then relaxed and after great link up play saw Jenny WATLING (Southern Comms) scored a great individual goal early in the second half. NORTHANTS came back as expected but were held by Lancashire's defence especially Helen KNAGGS the goalkeeper. Midway through the second half NORTHANTS broke free and scored a good goal a clean strike from the top of the D 1-1. Lancashire showed their fighting spirit and within 3 ins had got back into the lead with another goal from Jenny WATLING this time a deflected goal which looped over the rooted keeper. Lancashire then struggled to keep NORTHANTS at bay and with only 5 minutes remaining Lancashire gave away a penalty corner which was expertly dealt with and the scores were level with minutes remaining. With less than a minutes left on the clock Lancashire again gave away a Penalty corner and were punished again for there inability to clear there lines and NORTHANTS scored the winning goal seconds from time. FINAL SCORE 2-3. The 2003/2004 season got off a slow start with Lancashire getting a Bye in the first round, the second round was drawn in NOVEMBER 2003 which saw Lancashire given an away tie to NORFOLK, unfortunately Lancashire could not fulfil this fixture and they were allowed into the Plate Competition. This competition was drawn early Jan 2004 that saw Lancashire drawn at home to STRATHCLYDE. This match was played on 23rd Feb 2004 at Preston Sports Arena with the result being a 5-2 win to the opposition STRATHCLYDE. Lancashire’s goals were scored by Wendy JACOBS (EASTERN) and new comer Maria KIRKLAND (PCSO BISPHAM). A poor end after last seasons escapade. Lancashire will be entering the annual LONGRIDGE 7’s SUMMER LEAGUE this 2004 so hopefully the nucleus of players can stick together awaiting next season's competition. DC Helen KNAGGS continues as Hon Treasurer to the PSUK British Police Ladies Hockey Section a position she has held for the past 4 seasons. No report received By Secretary PC Helen Knaggs The ladies team played 16 games in the Longridge 7 aside Summer League winning 6, drew 3 and lost 7. They lost to Merseyside in the Round 1 of the PAA. In the PAA Plate they have faired better and have already won Round 1 and have qualified for further matches in early 2002.
