Lancashire Constabulary netball squad have had a very mixed year with some success but also some frustration and disappointment.
PSUK 2-Day Tournament
The annual PSUK 2 day tournament took place in Gloucester in September 2008, with Lancashire entering two teams. Both teams worked exceptionally hard in their games and achieved some fantastic results.
The ‘A’ Team won all of their games on the first day of play and were subsequently placed in the Gold Section. The A team narrowly missed the final by a difference of 1 goal and were finally placed in 3rd overall position. This is a great improvement for Lancashire and shows that the hard work in training has paid off.
The ‘B’ Team were drawn in an exceptionally difficult first day section, which included both the eventual finalists in Merseyside and The Met. Despite being beaten they showed determination and worked hard to attain respectable scores.
After the first day of play the ‘B’ Team were placed in the bronze section, in which they were very successful beating Yorkshire in the final by a convincing score. Lancashire received the winning Bronze Trophy.
The two-day tournament will be held in Cardiff in 2009.
Knockout Competition
The 2007 – 2008 ended in disappointment for both teams. The ‘A’ Team were knocked out in the early stages, however the ‘B’ team excelled in the plate competition and progressed to the Northern Final against Greater Manchester ‘A’.
Lancashire played outstanding in this match and took the lead on several occasions; unfortunately Greater Manchester came back strong in the last quarter of the match and won the game by a couple of goals.
The 2008-2009 competition has just commenced with Lancashire ‘A’ winning their first match and Lancashire ‘B’ losing to Greater Manchester. The A Team will hopefully now progress well in the Cup and the ‘B’ team in the Plate Competition.

PSUK 2-Day Tournament
The annual PSUK 2 day tournament took place in Newcastle in September 2007, with Lancashire entering two teams.
The A Team were drawn in the hardest group with three previous winners, which included their nemesis team, GMP. The team played very well but unfortunately ended up being placed third in the group after goal difference was taken into consideration. This consequently meant placement in the silver section for the following day of play.
The B Team were also placed in the silver section after the first day of play.
On the second day the B Team excelled and narrowly missed the Silver Section final, again after goal difference was taken into account. Overall placings were not provided by PSUK but both the A & B Team came in the region of 13-17 out of 32 teams.
The two-day tournament will be held in Gloucestershire in 2008.
Knockout Competition
Again the squad have had mixed results in the knockout competition.
The A Team has had a severe disappointment, having been knocked out of the competition in the second round.
The B Team were given a very tough first round draw in the form of Derbyshire, who have won this overall competition for over 7 years. The B Team excelled in this match only losing by a very respectable 3 goals. They were then automatically transferred to the Plate Competition where they are progressing well and are now still competing at the quarterfinal stage.
The Squad and Training Sessions
The squad has again expanded; following a recruitment drive we now have over 35 members on the books. We continue to do an annual active recruitment drive, which we have found very successful. Players are training on a fortnightly basis and selections of the teams are made from training.
Summary
The A Team has had a very disappointing season both in the 2-day tournament and the Knockout competition. They are now concentrating on training hard and improving fitness with a view to having a much more successful season in 2008.
The B Team are having an excellent season; they have had some superb results this year and are working hard. They are currently striving to progress beyond quarterfinal stage in the Plate Competition.

Lancashire Constabulary netball squad have had a very mixed year with some success but also some frustration and disappointment.
The squad has again expanded; following a recent recruitment drive 21 new players have expressed an interest in joining the teams.
At present Lancashire enter two teams in the PSUK knockout and the two-day tournament
The A Team had a successful start to the season reaching the Northern Final of the Knockout Tournament. Lancashire had to play Derbyshire Constabulary, the overall winners for the previous six years. Unfortunately Lancashire were defeated and Derbyshire went on to defeat The Met and took the title crown again.
The A Team were subsequently placed joint 3rd in the overall competition.
In September 2006 Lancashire entered two teams in the PSUK weekend tournament, which was held in Merseyside. Lancashire A reached the GOLD section, playing off on the second day for a place in the top 10. Lancashire B reached the SILVER Section on the second day, playing for a position of 11-20.
Lancashire A were narrowly defeated by their arch rivals GMP, who went on to win the competition.
Lancashire B reached the final in the SILVER section and were pipped to the post by GMP B Team in a nail biting match.
Overall placings at the tournament were Lancashire A – joint 5th and Lancashire B – 12th, this was out of 31 teams that entered the tournament.
Lancashire have now employed the services of a permanent coach for the squad and it is hoped that both teams can improve their positions in next years season.

Lancashire Netball is gong from strength to strength. The club now has over 25 members who are regularly attending training sessions, held on a fortnightly basis at HQ.
The recruitment of new players has allowed selection of squads and competition for places.
PSUK Knockout competition
In 2005 Lancashire entered two netball teams in the PSUK knockout competition.
Lancashire A team reached the quarter finals of the cup side of the competition, unfortunately they were narrowly defeated by a small margin of 4 goals by South Yorkshire Police.
Lancashire B team reached the final of the plate competition and played against West Midlands. The final was a closely fought game with both teams being on level pegging until the last quarter when unfortunately West Midlands pulled ahead by a couple of goals and won the competition. Nevertheless, Lancashire B are a relatively new squad and should be congratulated on their success in their first year together and for bringing home some silverware to Lancashire.

Annual 2 day PSUK netball tournament
The annual PSUK 2 day netball tournament was hosted by West Midlands in August 2005.
Due to summer holiday commitments Lancashire were only able to enter one team, this being an amalgamation of the A and B teams.
Despite torrential rain on the first day of the tournament Lancashire played exceptionally well and did not lose a game. This was a particular achievement as they had been drawn in a very tough section, which included Merseyside and GMP. (Overall winners of the tournament)
As a result of their hard work Lancashire were placed into the gold section of the competition the following day. Again, Lancashire were drawn in the most difficult section, which included The Met and Derbyshire.
Lancashire’s best moment of the day was playing The Met in a nail biting game, the Met eventually winning, but only by 1 goal.
At the end of the weekend Lancashire achieved a placing of 7th out of 31 county teams.
The 2006 tournament is being hosted in September and it is hoped that we can enter both Lancashire Teams and improve further on our performance last year.

In 2003 Lancs Police Netball Team entered the PAA Knockout Tournament. We were unfortunately knocked out in the 1st round. However we entered the PAA Plate and played in the final being beaten by West Midlands in a very good match.

Lancashire Constabulary Netball Team have not had as successful a year as they would have liked due to injuries and pregnancies. However this year is looking a lot better and new recruits are now asking to join us.
One achievement was winning the PAA Plate. The finals were held at Birmingham.
The PAA Tournament was hosted by ourselves in September 2002 at Edgehill College. It was a very successful weekend and 26 teams competed. ACC Finnigan presented the winning trophy to Derbyshire and the runner ups were GMP A We came in sixth place which out of 26 is a good result.
We are still looking for new player and I welcome any contact. Unfortunately we are trying to find a venue which is central to be able to continue our training. If anyone can come up with a suitable place I would be glad to hear from you.
