The national charity 'Whizz Kidz' has a number of guaranteed places for the London Marathon. They are hoping to form a national police team, a fund-raising initiative never undertaken before. A runner representing each of the 43 UK police forces will take part each raising sponsorship for the charity locally.

The above event will take place on Sunday 20 August 2000. The event is incorporated within the Glasgow City marathon and half marathon event that takes place the same day.

Further to previous weekly order item, the above event will take place from the Vale of Lune Rugby Club, Lancaster on Wednesday 12 July 2000 starting at 7.15pm.

This popular annual event attracted 85 members of the force in 1999. The course is an undulating 6.2 miles along urban and rural minor roads of Slyne and Hest Bank.

The Lancaster & Morecambe Athletic Club, which attracts overall 300 participants, host the main open event.

Members of all running standards are invited to participate in this event. There are the usual inter-divisional prizes to be contended with a hot pot supper for all finishers.

The above event will take place at Stretford Athletic Stadium, Longford Park, Manchester on Wednesday 28 June 2000.

A variety of track and field events will be staged starting from 12 noon. Any member of the force is invited to participate in this event.

The event will include a men’s and veterans’ 5000 metres and women’s 3000 metres. These disciplines may appeal to middle distance runners.

Trials will be held for the PAA Ladies British Police Hockey Squad at Cannock Hockey Club, Staffordshire on Tuesday 5 September 2000.

Each year the various sports sections of the Lancashire Constabulary Sports & Social Club make nominations to the main committee for this award.

It is intended to recognise a member of the force, police or support staff who has achieved a particular outstanding sporting performance or performances. Alternatively it may be awarded to an individual who has given a high degree of dedication, time and commitment to his or her sport. This may be during the previous 12 months or over a number of years.

Members of the force Swimming Section agreed to nominate PC 245 Arthur Marshall, HQ USU, as a worthy recipient of the award.

PC Marshall has attended nearly every P.A.A. swimming championships from 1964 winning gold medals in many of these events. In recent years has still excelled in the sport winning 'masters' 40 and 50 plus gold titles in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events.

PC Marshall has also been in the winning team in many national lifesaving and water polo competitions over the years.

The Chief Constable made a formal presentation of the award on Thursday 4 May 2000. Full details of his achievements are detailed on the club internet site at: www.policesport.co.uk

Are you interested in playing Netball? Don’t worry if you haven’t played since school. I am looking for keen and enthusiastic people to come along to training sessions now being held every Monday from 7.00pm until 8.00pm at Hutton in the Sports Hall. There is a qualified coach taking the sessions.

Players already in the Squad will play a match 8.00pm until 9.00pm every Monday. Any other players are more than welcome to stay on and possibly play in a match.

The award is intended to recognise an individual who has achieved a particular outstanding sporting performance or performances during the past year or over a number of years. Alternatively, it may be awarded to someone who has given a high degree of dedication, time and commitment to a particular sport. Again, this may be during the past twelve months or over a number of years.

All nominations received will be scrutinised by the club management committee and an announcement will be made at the Annual General Meeting to be held on Tuesday 29 February 2000.

Unsuccessful nominations from 1998 may be re-submitted for the award.

The report should be outlined on form G43 and should contain as much information as possible. The report may be sent either as 'hard copy'' or by internal e-mail.
