The above event will take place on Sunday 20th October 2002 at Hamsteley Forest, West Auckland, County Durham.

There are three events to be contested:

  • One Lap fun event of four miles – entry fee £4

  • Two lap ladies event of eight miles – entry fee £7.50

  • Three lap main event of twelve miles – entry fee £7.50

Entry fee includes lunch.

Cycling - World Fire & Police Games 2003

 

Carl Robinson, an officer from Walsall, in the West Midlands Police is asking for details of anyone who may be interested in joining a team going to the World Police & Fire Games in Barcelona from July 27th to August 3rd 2002. There are a number of cycling events including Time Trial, Road Race, Criterium, Mountain Bike and Sprint.

 

He is asking for interest at this stage and states that will be self funding (not PAA funded) and therefore sponsorship may well be required.

Recruitment of new players

 

The Lancashire Police Football Club manage two teams, the regular team and a veteran's squad.

 

The regular team play in the West Lancashire Football League, the associated cups and the PAA National Cup. All fixtures are played at Police Headquarters.

The Veterans team participate in the PAA National Veteran's Cup and have won the competition for the last 3 years.

 

Both squads are now actively looking for new players, both old and new for the forthcoming season.

The above event will take place from the Vale of Lune Rugby Club on Wednesday 10 July 2002 starting at 7.15pm.

 

This popular mid-summer 6.2 mile road race traverses an undulating but fast tarmac course around the Slyne and Hest Bank areas. The 2001 event attracted 80 runners from the Lancashire force.

 

Runners of all standards are encouraged to take part in this event. Course times for police club runners vary between 33 and 70 minutes.

Organised trip to the Commonwealth Games

 

A small number of premium seats are still available for the athletics track and field championships to be held in the Manchester Stadium on the evening of Friday 26 July 2002.

 

A coach will leave Police Headquarters about 3pm and will return at 10.30pm where a social function is planned at the HQ Club.

 

Due to the likely popularity of this function, tickets are still only on sale to full club members.

 

The County Club will pay 50% of the cost and the tickets will be priced at just £16 per person.

Central Lancashire and Southport Cycling Club

 

From now until September 2002 both Central Lancs. RC and Southport CC use the A59 from Tarleton for 10-mile time trials.

 

CLRC on Wednesdays, Southport CC on Thursdays.

 

Start time is 7.00pm but signing on is the rear car park of Mark Square, Tarleton from any time after 6.00pm.

 

Southport C.C. does a 25 about once a month but the course is restricted at the moment with road works and will be out of action until July at the earliest.

 

They may use an alternative any details can be obtained if anyone is interested. All are open events which means that you can just turn up on the night announce yourself as a member of the Lancashire Constabulary Cycling Section, pay your entry fee and ride.

 

Ribble Valley and North Lancashire Road Club

CYCLING

Lancashire Constabulary Cycling Section

 

The Lancashire Constabulary is affiliated to the Road Time Trials Council (RTTC) and British Cycling.

 

The RTTC oversee time trials and British Cycling oversee Road Racing, Track Racing and Mountain biking.

 

There are numerous events in the North West of England covering all of the above types of cycling and the purpose of the Cycling Section is to support those that competitively represent the Constabulary in the above disciplines.

 

From mid April to September there is a weekly event held at the Cottam Sports Arena in Preston on a Thursday evenings. The events can be entered on the night and cater for all categories using the purpose built closed circuit.

 

There are a number of regular local 10 and 25-mile time trials held in the county (such as at Brock on the A6, Tarleton to Hutton on the A59). Entry is normally for a notional fee of around £1 and can be made on the night.

 

The cycling P.A.A. events for 2002 are as follows: -

Trip to 2002 Commonwealth Games

 

2002 marks the 50th anniversary of the Lancashire Constabulary Sports and Social Club and to celebrate this golden jubilee we have arranged a trip to the games.

 

50 premium seats have been booked in the Manchester Stadium for the evening of Friday 26 July where the following events will be staged:

Women's Heats/Finals

  • Shot Put

  • Hammer

  • 200 metres

  • 400 metres

  • 5000 metres

Men's Heats/Finals

  • Triple Jump

  • 3000 metres steeplechase

  • 400 metres

  • 10,000 metres

A coach will leave Police Headquarters about 3pm and will return at 10.30pm where a social function is planned at the HQ Club.

 

This trip is organised by the County Club and just 7 tickets will be available to each of the police divisions.

 

Due to the likely popularity of this function, tickets will be only on sale to full club members on a first come first served basis. A reserve list will also be made that may include honorary members, in the event of any cancelled seats becoming available nearer the time.

 

The County Club will pay 50% of the cost and the tickets will be priced at just £16 per person.

Four nominations for the above award were received this year with the following result:

PC Woolston's main sport is football that he has played at an outstanding level since 1984. He has won countless medals and awards and has also played rugby, cricket, tennis and badminton for the county, again at a very high standard.

PC Horne has supported the Athletics Section both competitively and organisationally for a number of years.

The above Championships will take place at Ribby Hall Sports Hall, Wrea Green, Kirkham, Lancashire on Monday, 4 March, 2002 commencing at 12 noon.

 

In accordance with the P.A.A. National Championship rules, entries can be received from serving police officers, paid police support staff, retired police officers and retired police support staff. The following events will be contested: -

  • Men’s and Ladies singles

  • Men’s and Ladies doubles

  • Mixed doubles

  • Veteran Men’s

  • Ladies and mixed doubles

The age qualification for the Veteran events are that Men should be 40 years of age and Ladies should be 35 years of age on 1 January, 2002.

 

Successful competitors who win the respective events will qualify to represent the North West Region at the National Police Badminton Championships which are to be staged by South Yorkshire Police in Sheffield between 19 and 21 April, 2002.

 

Entries for the qualifying competition will close on 25 February 2002.

Nominations are invited for the above award that has been presented annually since 1964.

 

It is intended to recognise a member of the force, police or support staff who has achieved a particular outstanding sporting performance or performances. It also includes anyone who has given a high degree of dedication, time and commitment to his or her sport. In either case the performance may be during the previous 12 months or over a number of years.

 

A report giving full details of the nomination should be forwarded to the County Club secretary, Pc Steven Broadbent, Lancaster Police Station, Northern Division. Details should be received no later than Friday 1 February 2002. An announcement will be made at the club AGM in March.
