Due to a problem with our printers James E. James, we will be unable to distribute 2005 Club diaries until the New Year.

 

As a compromise, we have been able to secure an order with another publisher who will be able to print a ‘fiscal year’ diary in March.

 

The Club apologises for temporary loss of this annual facility and it is hoped that our new publishers will secure publication of a 2006 ‘calendar year diary’, on time, in December next year.

 

There are a limited number of 2005 PSUK pocket diaries being given away free to the first 100 sports and social club members using the new club website. Go to the site to obtain further details.

PSUK National Swimming and Water-Polo Championships

 

The Police Sport UK national swimming and water polo championships are to be held at Stirling on 5 and 6 March 2005. The competition is open to police officers and police staff, both serving and retired. They also need to be full members of the Club. 

 

ACPO Lifesaving Championships

 

The ACPO national lifesaving championships are to take place in Merseyside on 10 to 12 June 2005.  These championships are open to police officers only. 

 

Anyone wishing to be considered to represent the Lancashire Constabulary team in either of the above events, or to find out more about the competition, should contact Inspector Karen Simister on 209180 or by e-mail.

As always, these cross-country races are competitive but at the same time enjoyable and provide the basis of ideal winter training.

Annual 7-a-side Presentation Evening

 

The Annual presentation evening for the Lancashire Constabulary 7-a-Side Football summer league will be held at 7.00pm on Thursday the 21st of October 2004 at Headquarters Bar. There will be refreshments provided for all registered players, a raffle, and presentation to league and cup winners. 

 

The two cup finals will be held the same evening with a 5.00 pm kick off, all are welcome to watch the games.

They comprise six miles for men and four miles for women starting at 2 pm. In most cases we will meet at Bamber Bridge Police Station where minibus transport will proceed to the venue.

Lancashire Constabulary played Northumbria Police at Great Harwood CC on Thursday 8 July 2004 with the following result:

 

In a game reduced by rain to 20 overs per side, Northumbria scored 156 for 2 (PC Andy Sidgreaves, 4 overs, 2 for 22).

 

In reply, Lancashire scored 155 for 6 (DC Gary Bolton 32, PC Andy McNicholas 38 not out), losing very narrowly, by one run.

British Police Team Championships

 

The regional final was played on 3 June 2004 at Thirsk .

 

In the morning we beat North Yorkshire and in the afternoon we beat Cleveland to qualify for the zone final. This will be played on Friday 9 July over Gullane 2, Muirfield, between Lancashire, Tayside, Lothian and Borders and Cumbria.

The above championships were played 7 -11 June in Northumbria

The North British Offshore Sailing Championships

 

The above event took place over five days from Monday 14th June to Friday 18th June 2004.

 

A series of yacht races took place in the Firth of Clyde, over a course of 150 nautical miles. Lancashire Constabulary entered two yachts, crewed by officers from several Divisions in this event, and were placed 5th and 7th in the fast handicap fleet.

Inter-Divisional 10 Kilometre Road Race

 

The above event will take place at 7.00 pm Wednesday 14 July 2004 starting from the Lancaster and Morecambe College of Further Education. (New start point) This very popular mid-summer event has been organised for the past 15 years and now attracts almost 100 runners from the Lancashire force.

 

The event is incorporated within the local Lancaster and Morecambe Athletic Club event that attracts a further 250 runners from the North-West.

 

The route is an undulating 6.2 mile course through Slyne, Hest Bank and Torrisholme area. The £5 entry fee is paid by your Divisional Sports and Social Club.

 

This is not an elitist race and all standards of runner are encouraged to take part. In the past, police 10k standard times have varied between 35 and 70 minutes. Inter-Divisional prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed men, women, veteran 40+ individuals and teams.

The force Athletics Section is looking for members who are interested in competing in any of the above disciplines. Level of ability for these championships need not necessarily high, simply the ability to play the discipline well.

Lancashire Constabulary’s Cricket Section competes in the annual Police Sport UK Cricket Knockout, competed for between all police forces in the United Kingdom.

 

The first round of this year’s competition is to be held on Thursday 13 May, when Lancashire travel to play Cheshire. Full details of this fixture are as below.

 

The Section is always eager to recruit new players, either police officers or police staff, so if you are interested in playing cricket for the Constabulary, please contact Inspector Neil Gregson at HQ (x. 412237 or via e-mail), with brief details of your experience and specialism.

 

The first round of the 2004 Police Sport UK Cricket Knockout is to be held on Thursday 13 May 2004 at Chester Broughton Hall CC, between Cheshire Constabulary and Lancashire Constabulary, starting at 1pm.

CLUB AWARD

 

Lancashire Constabulary 'Sports Personality of the Year 2003'

 

A number of nominations were received for the above title. The Club Committee voted unanimously that Inspector Peter Upton - Northern Division should be the recipient of the 2003 award.

 

Inspector Upton has been an active and dedicated sportsman since joining the force in 1979. His main sport in recent years has been squash and he has won a large number of championship titles in regional, national and international police events.

 

Inspector Upton will be formally presented with the Ormerod Trophy at a police award ceremony to be held in May.

Increase in monthly Lottery Subscription

 

With effect from 1 April 2004 the monthly lottery subscription will be increased from 50 pence per chance to 60 pence per chance.

 

This will mean that the lottery prizes denominations are increased as follows:-

An additional fourth prize has been added:-

You may have up to 20 chances in the Club lottery. Each chance costs now costs 60 pence per month. At present, if you have 10 chances you have a 1 in 300 chance of winning one of the four monthly prizes. Far better odds than the National Lottery.

 

The changes will take effect immediately and the increased deductions can be found in your March 2004 pay-slip. Therefore no action is required. If you wish to increase or decrease your lottery subscription then you must complete a form available on the Intranet that is contained within the Sports & Social pages and forward it to the Club treasurer.

Spring Function – Western Division

 

Western Division Sports & Social Club are organising a Buffet/Dance at the Sheraton Hotel, Promenade, Blackpool on Friday 21st May 2004.  

A Band (Northern Lights) and resident DJ will provide music to suit all tastes throughout the evening and a buffet meal will be provided.

The above annual event will take place at the Hough End Centre, GMP on Tuesday 9 March 2004 starting at 2pm. The course is over fairly flat cross-country terrain with distances of six miles for men and four miles for women.

Sports Personality Award 2003

 

Nominations are still invited for the above award that has been presented annually since 1964.

 

The award is intended to recognise a member of the Sports & Social Club, police or support staff who has achieved a particular outstanding sporting performance or performances when playing for Club. This may be during the previous 12 months or over a number of years.

 

It also includes anyone who has given a high degree of dedication, time and commitment to police sport over a number of years.

 

It must be stressed that this is a Club award and it is intended to recognise achievements in primarily police sport activities. Also, nominees must be members or honorary members of the Club.

 

Activities engaged outside police club circles may be added to support the overall nomination.

 

To assist with your nomination, the report should include all or some of the following information:

 

·     A summary of activity and achievements listed in chronological order up to present day.

 

These should primarily be police sports events followed by non-police sport events.

 

·     Detail of any prestigious sporting achievements - 'the high-point' of the persons sporting career'.

·     Any noteworthy sports stories or significant events.

·     How the member has supported the Club in an organisational or supportive manner over the years.

·     Details of other club members who support the nomination and their views.

 

It may be appropriate to actually contact the person you are nominating to expand on more detail and information in support of your report.

 

Finally, it is acceptable in certain circumstances for an individual to nominate his or herself.

 

A report giving full details should be forwarded to the County Club secretary, PC Steven Broadbent, Lancaster Police Station, Northern Division. The report may be sent by e-mail, as a Word document or on a typed / hand written G43.

 

The report should be received no later than Friday 5 March 2004.  An announcement will be made at the club AGM to be held on 11 March.

The above fixture will take place on Wednesday 18 February 2004 at South Yorkshire Police Sports Ground - Kick-off at 2.00pm.

The following members of the Force have been selected to participate in the event.

One day of special leave will be granted for those not on rest day, subject to the final approval of their respective Divisional/Departmental commanders'. The additional day will be from the Officers annual leave: -

INFORMATION

 

Sports Personality Award 2003

 

Nominations are invited for the above award that has been presented annually since 1964.

 

The award is intended to recognise a member of the Sports & Social Club, police or support staff who has achieved a particular outstanding sporting performance or performances when playing for Club. This may be during the previous 12 months or over a number of years.

 

It also includes anyone who has given a high degree of dedication, time and commitment to police sport over a number of years.

 

It must be stressed that this is a Club award and it is intended to recognise achievements in primarily police sport activities. Also, nominees must be members or honorary members of the Club.

 

Activities engaged outside police club circles may be added to support the overall nomination.

 

To assist with your nomination, the report should include all or some of the following information:

 

A summary of activity and achievements listed in chronological order up to present day.

 

These should primarily be police sports events followed by non-police sport events.

 

·     Detail of any prestigious sporting achievements - 'the high-point' of the persons sporting career'.

·     Any noteworthy sports stories or significant events.

·     How the member has supported the Club in an organisational or supportive manner over the years.

·     Details of other club members who support the nomination and their views.

 

It may be appropriate to actually contact the person you are nominating to expand on more detail and information in support of your report.

 

Finally, it is acceptable in certain circumstances for an individual to nominate his or herself.

 

A report giving full details should be forwarded to the County Club secretary, PC Steven Broadbent, Lancaster Police Station, Northern Division. The report may be sent by e-mail, as a Word document or on a typed / hand written G43.

 

The report should be received no later than Friday 20 February 2004.  An announcement will be made at the club AGM to be held on 11 March.

 

Annual General Meeting

 

The AGM of the County Sports and Social Club will take place at 2pm on Thursday 11 March 2004 in the Connolly Room, Police Headquarters, Hutton.
