As always, these cross country races are always competitive but at the same time enjoyable and provide the basis of ideal winter training.

This year it will take place at Ribby hall leisure village, Wrea green, Lancashire on Tuesday 3 February from 10am to 2pm.

Veteran men’s doubles (Aged over 40 on 01/01/09)

On Thursday 24 July the quarter-final of the Police Sport UK Cricket Trophy was played between Nottinghamshire Police and Lancashire Constabulary at Calverton Cricket Club, Nottingham.

 

Nottinghamshire won by 19 runs.

 

Nottinghamshire 266 all out (45 overs) (PC Matt McGuinness 9 overs, 5 for 35)

 

Lancashire 247 all out (PC Gareth Evans 111, PCSO Graham Lloyd 42).

Police Sport UK Cricket Competition – Second Round and Quarter Final

 

Following Lancashire’s victory in the first round of this competition, we were due to play Lincolnshire in the second round. However, Lincolnshire conceded the game and we have now progressed to the quarter-final stage of the competition. This is to be played against Nottinghamshire Police (away, venue to be confirmed) on Thursday 24 July 2008, 1pm start.  

 

It is hoped to select a team from the following members of staff. One day’s Special Leave is available, subject to the exigencies of the service and at the discretion of Divisional/Departmental Commanders. Players to meet at the HQ ‘skid-pan’ at 8.30am; transport to be arranged using the minimum number of vehicles.

Fixture

 

Annual Inter-Divisional 10K Road Race

 

The above event will take place on Wednesday 23 July 2008 at Lancaster starting at 7.30pm. The race starts the Farmhouse Tavern, Scale Hall, Morecambe Road, Lancaster. This is a mildly undulating 6.2 mile course around the Lancaster and Oxcliffe area. The course will be similar last year and will take in part of the River Lune cycleway. 

 

Any standard of runner may take part in this event. Entries are open to members of all Divisional Sports & Social Clubs and fees will be paid directly by your respective club.

 

Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed individuals in the male, female and veteran male and female categories. ‘Inter-Divisional’ team prizes are also awarded. (Four to count)

Please give this event your best support. Last year we had more than 80 entries from across the force with 10k finishing times ranging from 35 to 69 minutes. Therefore runners all standards are welcome to participate.

Anthony Walker Cup Competition

 

This competition is to be played between Lancashire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire police forces, in memory of Anthony Walker, who was killed in a racist incident in Huyton.

 

It is anticipated that the Chief Constable of each force will play, leading a team representative of the diverse mix of officers and staff from each respective force. The emphasis is more on ‘taking part’ than on any particular standard of ‘professional’ cricket.

Police Sport UK 3rd annual Super Cops Event

 

Could you be the “Police Sport UK Sporting Super Star of 2008”?

 

Police Sport UK are seeking to find a Super Star in sporting terms, the event will be based on the BBC TV Superstars competition. It is a national competition open to all forces. Police Sport UK is aware that a large number of its members do not participate in traditional team sports such as soccer and cricket but do have a active sporting lifestyle using local gymnasiums to keep fit. It is these members we hope to attract into this concept.

 

Each force will be invited to enter one male and one female competitor to the National Super cops event to be held over 2 days on the  7th and 8th  of May 2008. Participants will need to arrive at the venue Potters leisure resort, Hopton, near Great Yarmouth on the evening of the 6th of May. Forces with strength over 7,000 will be allowed to enter two participants and the Metropolitan Police service up to four.

 

It is open to both Police officers and Police staff serving or retired is accordance to the constitution of Police Sport UK

 

The events that make up ‘Supercops’ are outlined below and will be added to.

 

An age related bonus points will also be added to participant’s scores.

 

The rules have been kept very simple so no training will be required only physical fitness.

 

Super Cops Events (Provisional)

 

  • Golf: Chip nearest the hole.

 

  • Running: Each sets own treadmill speed and can adjust it as they run. The challenge is to run as far as possible in 10 minutes. 

 

  • Rowing: Using Concept II Rowers. Scoring as for Treadmill Run, how far can you row in 10 minutes.

 

  • Archery: Total score from five shots at the target

 

  • Netball: Five attempts each score 1 point for each successful shot

 

  • Football: Five balls each. Each attempt starts on the centre spot. The player dribbles through ten cones each 2 metres apart before proceeding to the ‘D’ of the penalty area to shoot at a cone on the goal line.

 

  • Bleep Test: As taken when you joined up

 

  • 8 Gym Tests: ‘Maximums’ - There are four stations, Press Ups, High Knees, Abdominal Chinnies and Burpees. Every player attempts all four stations.

 

Lancashire Constabulary County Sports Club Selection

 

Sports & Social Club funding will be available to those selected to attend. The cost to the individual will be £30 to £40. The remaining cost of accommodation, travel and meals will be funded by the Club.

 

If we receive more than one male/female application, a selection fitness test will take place at Hutton Hall to determine the fittest male and female to represent Lancashire. This test will be carried out late March and will comprise of ‘indoor rower’, blip test and push pull test.

The above fixture has been arranged for Wednesday 16 January 2008. It is a home fixture v Dyfed Powys Police being played at 2pm at Leyland Astro, Lancashire FA, Leyland.
