Treasurer's Annual Report 2007
By Treasurer - SC Steven Broadbent

Last year we over-spent by around £3500. This year we have managed to reverse this and made a small profit of around £1600.
This profit was primarily as a result of the rise in the lottery stake though stricter management of the claim criteria has also a bearing on this. This profit will simply top up our reserve bringing it back up to £8000. I would like to see the Club with a reserve of £10,000. This is not a case of ‘hoarding funds’, the sum is necessary to enable the club to operate month by month without going overdrawn.
We can only raise the lottery stake every five years to keep in line with inflation so we must not get complacent and still look for other ways of keeping our account in credit during 2008 and beyond and hopefully raising a little more capital. Proposals are:
Increased marketing of Club memberships and lottery subscriptions. More people are retiring and less are joining. I am now attending most staff inductions for new PC’s, PCSO’s and police staff to reverse this.
Raise the Per-capita levy – This has remained at £1.50 for at least four years and really needs to rise with inflation. (To be discussed at item 14)
To urge regular County sports members to play or increase their lottery chances.
Sports Sections to seek sponsorship for new kit and other playing needs.
Sports sections to plan their transport arrangements better. Money can be saved with car share or minibus hire and there are environmental issues to consider also.
I have circulated a small number of audited accounts to the meeting. Please feel free to study these closely and raise any questions here or at a later time. If you look at the 2007 figures you will see the basis of we have to spend in the coming year. As the old saying goes, we can’t spend what we haven’t got.
Thank you to all secretaries for their consideration, understanding and perseverance.
