Australia Rugby Tour 2008
Three Lancashire Police officers will be representing Great Britain at this year’s Police Rugby World Cup, taking place ‘down under’ later in the year. PC Alan Clark and PC Ste Brown (Southern) and PC Mike Kearns (Eastern).
The inaugural Policy Rugby League World Cup 2008 tournament has been combined this year with the fourth Women’s Rugby League World Cup. Both World Cups form part of the Australian Rugby Leagues Centenary of Rugby League celebrations in Australia this year.
The tournament will take the British team, made up of 25 serving police officers from across the country, on a tour of Australia’s sunshine coast with matches fixed in Sydney, Caloundra, Brisbane and Cairns. The official launch and opening ceremony is being held in Sydney’s Stockland Park on Monday 3/ Tuesday 4 November and the first match kicks off on Thursday, 6 November 2008. Both finals will be played on Saturday 15 November.
The British team will face tough competition from seven other countries, including teams from South Africa, New Zealand and the host country, Australia.
“It’s a tremendous honor to represent your country and I’ll be wearing the team strip with pride’’. Say’s Alan Clark. “The team is training really hard to get to peak fitness for the tournament. All of us are under no illusion that it’s going to be an easy ride, but we’re a strong team and share a dogged determination to do the best for our own forces, the Police Service and of course Great Britain hopefully bringing home the silver ware.”
All team members are funding their participation in the 2008 Police Rugby World Cup. Anyone wishing to sponsor the lads should email them direct on
