Police Sport UK Off-Shore Sailing Championships 2005
The PSUK National Offshore Sailing Championships were held from 15th - 19th May 2005, off the west coast of Scotland, in the area Argyll, Oban, Isle Mull. Seven Police officers from Lancashire Constabulary took part and the team/ crew, chartered a Jeanneau Sunfast 37, 38 foot yacht,from Largs.

They sailed the yacht overnight to Ardrishaig, and then through the Crinan canal lock system. Five days of racing took place with races from.- Crinan to Oban. Oban to Garvellachs, Oban to Tobermorry. two round the cans/ buoys races in sound of Mull. Tobermorry to Oban.

A total distance sailed of 350 nautical miles for the week. Top boat speed attained was 11+ knots. Lancashire team result was in the bottom half of the 19 yacht fleet for this year. However the Lancashire team were awarded the prize / award of "The Spirit of the Event" for their keenness and enthusiasm in this their first year to enter this event which has been running for 20 years.
It was a learning curve for the crew, most of which were experienced in dinghy sailing and with RYA practical qualifications.
The Lancashire Constabulary team / yacht were placed 19th overall.
Next years National Offshore Championships will be held from 22nd - 26th May 2006, on the south coast, Solent area. It is intended that Lancashire will enter a crew in 2006, and any experienced offshore sailors preferably with racing experience are asked to make contact with the Sailing Section Secretary.
