Whilst serving in the Lancashire Constabulary I was secretary for the full bore rifle section until I retired in 1987. During that time I took teams from Lancashire and entered police full bore rifle championship shoots in Manchester, Merseyside, West Midlands, Avon and Somerset, Scotland, and also the PAA Championships. Invariably we came away as the winners. During this time I had the honour of being the only person from Lancashire to ever win the PAA Championship.
In 1989 I was one of the founding members of the UK Police full bore target rifle club, and at present am the individual, veteran and long range champion of this club.
Since I retired I have entered all the police full bore rifle championships and have generally come in the top five. It was not until 1999 that the PAA (now Police Sport UK) recognised retired police and included them in the prize list.
It was in this year that I shot for the 2nd time the maximum score of 150 with 20 v bulls a record score that has yet to be beaten.
In 2002 I was selected to shoot in the N.R.A. Palma team against Europe.
In 2004 I entered the Merseyside, G.M.P., Scottish Police, Gloucestershire, Devon and Cornwall full bore rifle championship shoots and achieved 1st place in them all.
In 2005 I have had reasonable success up to now coming 2nd in the Merseyside and G.M.P. championship and coming 1st in the short range championship of the Scottish Police Championships.
