Represented Secondary School at 6+ sports and Cheshire Schools at cross country and 800m.
Lancashire Police Cadets
Joined Lancs Constabulary Cadets in 1971. As a cadet, represented the force at wrestling, basketball, cross country and orienteering in both police and open events.

Police Officer - Lancashire Constabulary
Entered the Preston district 'Super Stars' competition. (Track run, swim, table tennis, basketball lay-ups, hockey shooting, archery, gym `dips` and `squat thrusts`). There were over 200 competitors. Won the heat and several weeks later came 2nd in the final (losing by ½ of a point)
Over 2 years won both a silver and gold medal at the British amateur open wrestling championships (Under 21 years light heavyweight)
Qualified as a Class 1 Home Office physical training and self defence instructor. Qualified by the Amateur Swimming Association as swimming instructor.
Qualified as Black belt (2nd Dan) Police Aikido with National Police Training.
Coached a successful Lancashire Constabulary Cadet wrestling team for 3 yrs.
Represented Lancashire Constabulary basketball team at regional, national and later PAA championships every year (barring injuries) for 20yrs from 1979 to 1999. Have also acted as team captain and team manager.
Represented Lancashire Constabulary volleyball team in local indoor league, outdoor and beach tournaments and PAA annual events. Was voted the Leyland League (Div 3) 'Player of the Year Award'.
Played first game of rugby union aged 33 yrs, and was a regular for three years playing in two Chief Constables' Cup finals. Represented Lancashire Constabulary once (at short notice)
Represented various divisions at lifesaving, swimming, rugby union, cross country, basketball, road racing, triathlon, and athletics (usually getting a `place` or three at a combination of 400m, 800m, relay, shot put and discuss)
Played for 4 years in the Lancashire Constabulary. Summer 7 a side football summer league.
For 3 years entered 'open' triathlon competitions (swim, cycle, run) and registered as Lancashire Constabulary Officer. Took part in Lancashire Constabulary triathlon at Lancaster.
Regularly went to aerobics classes. Took weekend course in `Exercise to Music`. Acted as an aerobics class demonstrator with over 100 attendees. Occasionally took the classes at West View Leisure Centre. For over 2 years ran a lunchtime aerobics/step class attended by both police and support staff.
In 1996 entered the Blackburn Council Ultra Fit Gym Challenge. A ten-event competition held over a month at the `Regency` Health Studio. Winner of not only the over 40`s age group but put in the winning time better than all the age groups.
At end of 1999, following a second back operation, had to retire from county volleyball and basketball teams. Took up indoor rowing on the `Concept 2` machine, to “lose a bit of weight”.
In March 2000 took up indoor rowing with a vengeance and personal best time over 2000 metres placed him 388th in the UK.
Set a target of entering the British indoor rowing championships at Reading in November 2000. Logged over 190 hard training sessions on the rower covering nearly 1 ½ million metres.
On 21st November flew to Dublin for the day entering under club name - Lancashire Constabulary. In the 40 to 49yrs age category came 5th.
On 28th November took part in the British indoor rowing championships. There were 5,000+ spectators, and 1,900 entries. All competing over 2000 metres.
Of the 54 competitors in the 45 to 49 years age group, ranked 10th in race on previously submitted `personal best` time. 7th at halfway stage. 3rd at `the death`. Personal best time of 6min.33.1 seconds.
Bronze medal awarded by Steve Trapmore, Olympic gold medal rower at the Sydney Games. To achieve this at such a fiercely competitive and demanding event, and within a year, competing against many rowing club members, health club members and services personnel, ranks as the proudest sporting moment of his life.
March 2001 attending Christchurch, New Zealand to take part in the 'Super Games' 2001. A week long world wide multi-sport event starting on 30th March. It is open to service personnel from all Air Force, Army, Navy, Customs, Prison, Fire and Police services.
