PC Mark Woolston based at Ormskirk, Southern Division was one of four nominations submitted to the committee for the annual 'Sports Personality of the Year Award'.

All nominations were of a high standard but the committee, in favour of PC Woolston's achievements gave a unanimous vote.

Mark Woolston has demonstrated a high level of loyalty to various Lancashire Constabulary sports sections over the years.

Chief Constable of Lancashire

Constabulary presents the award

in March 2002

His commitment to sport is second to none and he is always prepared to go the extra mile, both on and off the sports pitch or court.

Mark's main interest has been with the Constabulary football club, with which he started in 1984. During this time he has won a succession of medals and trophies at PAA level and has represented the British and English police teams on numerous occasions.

He has served as County club captain for 12 years and is also the player manager. He spends many hours organising the team before each fixture and manages to combine squad arrangements with shift work. He plays for both the regular team and more recently, the newly formed veterans team who have been twice PAA national champions for 1999 and 2000.

Since 1984 he has been recipient of the football section 'Player of the Season' trophy on three occasions following continued outstanding achievements and successes in the team.

Mark also manages to 'convert' easily to rugby, a section he has served since 1984. He has played in four PAA cup finals and can boast a PAA winners medal.

In cricket too, Mark can 'hit 'em for six' making his debut in the County police team in 1986. Since this time he has played on a number of occasions and was in the team in the PAA national final Cup game.

Mark has also proved a hit in both tennis and badminton, representing police teams in various PAA competitions over the years.

His level of skill and loyalty to the Lancashire Constabulary sports club, in particular, football, has earned him both the nomination for the title of 'Sports Personality 2001'. He clearly an accomplished, all round sportsman and a credit to the force.
