DC Gibson was nominated for the 1995 award in June 1996. Neil, aged 36 years joined the force in 1986. He is currently stationed at Preston. His main active sport is Tennis that he has played competitively since he was eleven years of age.
Neil has represented the force at Tennis since 1987 and played in the Northern Police Tennis League up to present day.
He has also represented the force in Police Athletic Association events held annually. He has won the men's singles four times. In Exmouth in 1988, Felixstowe in 1989, Nottingham in 1994 and Wimbledon in 1995.

Neil has also represented the British Police in Europe. In 1991 he played in France where he reached the quarter finals in the men's doubles.
In 1995 he travelled to Graz in Austria representing the British Police again in the European Championships. He returned from this event as Men's Doubles Champion with a fellow 'City of London' colleague.
Neil has played for Lancashire County since he was 16. In 1995 he reached the semi-finals in the Lancashire Championships in Manchester.
He also plays squash and represents the force North West Counties League and has been force champion in this sport on one occasion.
A final note - Since he was nominated for this award in 1996 Neil went on to win the PAA Nationals yet again making it the 5th successive victory in the men's tennis singles!
