The Lancashire Police Squash Team played in the North West Counties Squash League 4th Division, the team being captained by PS Dennis Nicholson from Preston RPU. After having a successful first two thirds of the season the heating on the courts at Hutton Hall became faulty and resulted in the team having to withdraw from the League because it couldn’t fulfil its home fixtures.
At the PSUK National Squash Finals held in Sheffield, Insp Peter Upton won the over 45 event for the 7th year running and hopes to defend the title in Cardiff next April
On the bright side the courts have now been fully refurbished and are playing really well. The team hopes to rejoin the NWCSL in 2009. Any new squash players would be welcome especially those who would be able to compete in the leagues on Thursday evenings from 7pm onwards. Please contact Peter Upton if interested. 2007 By Secretary Insp Peter Upton Report pending... 2006 By Secretary Insp Peter Upton The Lancashire Police Team has again competed in the North West Counties Squash League, Division 4, finishing in mid table. Individually, PS Nicholson from Preston Division had the most improved set of results playing at no 2. Insp Peter Upton,G Div, won the Lancashire Open title beating DS Dave Priest, G Div, in the final. At regional level DS Priest won the PSUK Mens Open and Insp Upton won the over 45 title. In the National finals Insp Upton won the over 45 title for the 5th time beating an officer from the Metropolitan Police in the final. 2005 By Secretary Insp Peter Upton The Lancashire Constabulary Squash Team is competing in the North West Counties Squash League for the 38th consecutive year. Players representing the team come from Eastern, Northern Central and 'G' Divisions. Insp Peter Upton won the Lancashire Constabulary Open Squash Title beating DS Dave Priest 3-1 in the Final at Hutton. Peter went on to win the PSUK National over 45 title for the fourth year running, the finals being held in Edinburgh. By Secretary Insp Peter Upton The 5 person squash team has again competed in the North West Counties Squash League and will play 26 games in total. At present they are in mid table with a couple of months to go of the season. Last March Insp Upton again won the PSUK over 45 national title in Edinburgh. The Lancashire Open Force Tournament, in Jan this year was won by Insp Upton who went on to win the PSUK North West over 45 title. This years nationals were to be hosted by our region in Carlisle but the recent floods put the courts six feet under water. The nationals have been hurriedly rearranged and will again take place in Edinburgh from 18-21 March. We have a ladies competing for the first time in many years, Ann Fingleton from Blackburn. There would have been two but for leave commitments. Our most improved player is Dave Sherrington from Blackburn and our most committed player has been Ray Bell from Morecambe, who has travelled the county at very short notice to fill the gaps when others have been unavailable. By Secretary Insp Peter Upton The Lancashire Police team play in the 3rd div of the North West Counties Squash League and play approx. 26 games in a season, which runs from Sept-April. Officers from Eastern (2), Northern (2), Central and Southern divisions play in the team. Due to injuries the team will finish below half way in the league this season. As regards the PSUK events the results are as follows. Lancs Police Men's Open Final Insp Peter Upton (northern) beat DS Dave Priest (HQ Div) 3-1 NW Finals-Kendal Men's Open DS Priest beat DS Slatter (Cheshire) 3-2 Vets (45) Insp Upton beat Mr Beltway (Cumbria) 3-1 National Finals-Edinburgh Vet's - Insp Upton beat PS Jack Allen (PSNI) 3-0 World P&F Games - Insp Upton won the over 40 event beating at officer from Spain 3-1 in the final. No report received By Secretary Insp Peter Upton Secretary, Inspector Peter Upton, achieved tremendous performances. He was selected for the British Police team in three representative matches and in each case won every match. He also won the PAA North West Region event. The team ended up 'mid-table' in the North West Counties League.
