The swimming team had a great deal of success in the National Swimming Championships at Coventry on 5 and 6 April 2008.
DC Ed Clayton won the 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly.
In the masters events: -
Arthur Marshall won the freestyle, butterfly and backstroke, gaining the silver medal in the breaststroke, in his age group.
John Pollard gained the bronze medal in the breaststroke in his age group.
PC Phil Brooks won the 50m breaststroke in his age group.
CI Karen Simister won the backstroke and breaststroke, gained the silver medal in the freestyle and the bronze medal in the butterfly.
PC Caroline Plummer gained the bronze medal in the breaststroke in her age group
PC Caroline Bell won the 50m breaststroke in her age group and third in the open 100m breaststroke
PC Phil Brooks, PC Greg Plummer and DC Dave Briggs gained the bronze medal in the water polo championship.
2007

Very successful year again at the PSUK championships.
Men's events
Masters age group E
PC Phil Brooks gained 2rd place in the 50m breast stroke.
Masters age group F
Mr John Pollard gained 4th place in the 50m breast stroke.
The northwest water polo team won the gold medal beating the Met 11 goals to 7. The following officers playing: -
PC Greg Plummer, PC Phil Brooks and DC Ian Mounfield.
Ladies events
CI Debbie Howard

PC Caroline Plummer
PC Jayne Whalley
Together won the masters medley relay and the masters freestyle relay.
Masters age group C
PC Whalley gained first place in 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly and second place in the 50m breast stroke.
Masters age group E
CI Howard gained the first place in the 50m backstroke, 2nd place in 50m freestyle, 3rd place in 50m Butterfly and 5th place in 50m breast stroke.
CI Simister gained Third place in 50m breast stroke, 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, 4th place in the 50m butterfly.
PC Plummer gained 4th place in the 50m breast stroke, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 6th place in the 50m freestyle.
As a result of the success, PC Whalley was chosen to represent the British police swimming team and DC Mounfield, PC Plummer and PC Brooks were chosen to represent the British water polo team.
Lifesaving
Again some great successes in the ACPO lifesaving event at Sheffield with the ladies team coming second and the mens team third. In the individual event PC Caroline Plummer and PC Greg Plummer both gained the bronze medal.
The teams consisted of: - (Ladies) Caroline Plummer, Jayne Whalley, Karen Simister, Rachel Carbery and Julie Peter; (Mens) Paul Carbery, Greg Plummer, Andy Spouse, Phil Brooks, Andy Walton and John Pollard.
2006

The swimming section has had an excellent year, even though one of our star performers left Lancashire for SOCA.
The results of the 2006 PSUK National Swimming Championships at Cardiff are as follows: -
DC Ed Clayton, Southern Division was in excellent form winning the 100m butterfly and the 200m freestyle.
In the masters events
Age group G - Arthur Marshall, HQ Security, gained three silver medals and a bronze medal.
Age group E - CI Debbie Howard, Southern Division, gained two gold and one silver
CI Karen Simister, Northern Division, gained one silver medals and two bronze and PC Caroline Plummer, Southern Division, gained a bronze medal.
PC Phil Brooks, Underwater search, gained a bronze medal.
Age group C – PC Jayne Whalley, nimrod gained one gold and three silver medals.
In the relay events CI Howard, CI Simister, PC Plummer and PC Whalley gained the gold medal in both the freestyle and medley masters relays.
Due to their success in the championships the following officers were selected to represent the British Police throughout the year DC Clayton and PC Whalley.
At the GB Masters at Sheffield, DC Clayton and PC Whalley represented the British Police team with the following results: -
DC Clayton 30 – 34 years, Gold 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle. In the freestyle relay DC Clayton and PC Whalley formed part of the team that won the gold medal and DC Clayton was part of the team that won gold in the medley relay.
The ACPO National Lifesaving championships too place in London with the ladies team winning the over all event for the first time in 19 years. The team were dominant throughout, winning both of the initiative tests, second in the rope throw event and third in the swim and tow event. The team comprised of the captain PC Caroline Plummer, Southern Division, PS Julie Peter, Eastern Division, PC Rachel Carbery Eastern Division, PC Jayne Whalley nimrod and CI Karen Simister Northern Division.
2005

The swimming section has followed the path of 2004, with a quiet but successful year.
The results of the 2005 PSUK National Swimming Championships at Stirling are as follows: -
DC 1904 Sinclair - 1st 50m freestyle
Arthur Marshall won all of his masters events
Insp 6052 Simister gained two silver medals and a bronze in her master’s events.
PC 6198 Plummer gained two bronze medals in her master’s events.
PC 2956 Whalley gained two gold, a silver and a bronze medal in her masters events
PC 643 Plummer, PC 810 Briggs, DC 1904 Sinclair and PC 1376 Brooks represented the North West water polo team and gained second place.
Due to their success in the championships the following officers were selected to represent the British Police throughout the year DC Sinclair and PC Whalley.
Arthur Marshall represented the British police masters team at the national masters competition in Sheffield, winning all his age group events.
At the ACPO National Lifesaving championships in Merseyside both the men’s and Ladies team gained the silver medals, with only a few marks away from getting the Gold. The teams were made up of the following officers: -
PC John Pollard, PC Andy Spouse, PC Phil Brooks, PC Paul Carbery and PC Greg Plummer, PC Caroline Plummer PC Julie Peter, PC Jayne Whalley, PC Rachel Blackburn and Insp Karen Simister.
2004

The swimming section had a quiet yet successful 2004.
The results of the 2004 PSUK National Swimming Championships are as follows: -
DC 1904 Sinclair - 1st 50m freestyle
Insp 6052 Simister gained two silver medals and a bronze in her master’s events.
PC 6198 Plummer gained two bronze medals in her master’s events.
PC 2956 Whalley gained two gold, a silver and a bronze medal
PC 3245 Ashcroft, PC 350 Clayton, DC 1904 Sinclair and PC 1376 Brooks won the men’s medley relay and were second in the men’s freestyle relay.
Insp Simister, PS 1056 Whyatt, PC 2956 Whalley and PC 3082 Corner came second in the ladies freestyle relay and third in the medley relay.

2003

2003 was a relatively quiet year for the swimming team, with only a few events being held.
At the Police Sport UK championships at Merseyside in April, the men's team won the gold medal in both their relays and the ladies team gained the silver medal in the freestyle relay. This was an excellent result considering the age profile of the team, with two 40 year olds competing against 25 year olds.
In the masters events PC Jayne Whalley from Pennine division is worthy of a mention as she gained the gold medal in three events and the silver in the other. This success won her the over all points trophy, the Graham Cutting Cup.
DC Roy Sinclair, National Crime Squad won the 50m freestyle, Inspector Karen Simister, Central Division, won three silver medals and PC Caroline Plummer, Pennine division won a silver and two bronze medals.
The water-polo team gained the silver medal.
At the Lifesaving championships at Belfast in June the men's team gained the silver medal and hope to go one better this year.
A number of officers from the swimming section attended the World Police and Fire Games to play water polo, unfortunately they came away empty handed.
2002

The swimming section had another very good year in 2002 / 2003.
The results of the 2002 PAA National Swimming Championships are as follows: -
PC 3245 Ashcroft

PC 245 Marshall - won all his masters events
Insp 6052 Simister - gained a first, second and a third in her master’s events.
PC 6198 Plummer - gained a second and third place in her master’s events.
PC 3245 Ashcroft, PC 350 Clayton, DC 1904 Sinclair and PC 1376 Brooks won the men’s medley relay and were second in the men’s freestyle relay.
PC 643 Plummer, PC 810 Briggs, DC 1904 Sinclair and DC 1830 Mounfield represented the Northwest water polo team and gained first place.
Due to the successful PAA championships the following officer were selected to represent the British Police in Norway in June: - PC Ashcroft, PC Clayton, DC Sinclair, PC Plummer, PC Briggs and DC Mounfield. The water polo team won the competition, PC Ashcroft won the 100m butterfly and PC Clayton gained second place in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle.
PC Ashcroft also represented the British Police at the National masters competition in Sheffield and was a member of the police team who won the medley relay for the 25 to 30 year old age group, falling fractions of a second short of the British record.
2001

In the PAA Nationals the men won the Free-style Relay and Medley events. PC's Clayton, Sinclair, Ashcroft, Brooks and Myers netted no less than 12 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze medals making it the most successful PAA for some time.
PC's Clayton, Sinclair, Ashcroft and Myers were selected for the British Police water-polo team in most successful European Championships for some time.
