Wrestling, Judo & Ju Jitsu Sports Section Introduction Wrestling - The Wrestling part of the section competes in two different types of wrestling namely Olympic Style and Cumberland and Westmoreland. Both types of Wrestling take place on a round mat with markings similar to that of a red white and blue target. That is where the main similarities finish.
In Olympic Wrestling the two opponents compete and are given different points for different types of holds or throws. In Cumberland and Westmorland is different in that that two opponents take hold of each other and whoever loses grip of has any part of their body touch the floor apart from the soles of their feet loses.
Judo - Judo take place on a similar type mat to wrestling and like Olympic Wrestling they are given points for different throws and holds. Ju Jitsu - This is a new addition to our section and we now have around ten active members.
Wrestling, Judo and Ju Jitsu are very physical contact sports and can be traced back 100's of years. The section is comparatively small at present, however we have had some good result over the past 5 years with 3 golds and a silver medal. Members at present are Alan Robertson, John Lee and Kim Carbutt.
