The Jitsu club continues to train every Wednesday night 1900-2100 hrs at the HQ gym.

The PSUK National Judo Championship 2008 was hosted by Merseyside. The force entered 4 players this year winning a total of 3 medals 2 bronze PC Lister WORTHINGTON and a Gold by PC Paul CARBERY.

Recent new members have been student officers wishing to improve officer safety skills. The club now has a beginners package which we have designed for police officers and other front line officers.

The club will be conducting a 4 week training programme in January designed for self defence and aimed at PCSO's. There has been a lot of interest from PCSO's and we hope to retain some after the course and boost club membership.

Lancon Judo and Ju-Jitsu club

The year got off to a good start with a recruitment drive which attracted around 30 new members to the mat. The new members were impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and the ease of learning self-defence techniques. To become totally proficient in any sport it takes time and dedication. Due to the nature of our life styles and work commitments many new members were unable prolong membership to the club but took away some potentially life saving techniques.

Some of our new members were proficient enough to take their first grading after just 3 months and went on to compete in the PSUK nationals.

The PSUK judo national championships were hosted by west midland police in September 07. The event saw a large turn out  by Team LANCON with 8 on the team and 7 competing.

PS Phil Kenyon, PS James Saddoo, PC Lister Worthington, PC Dave Render, PC Paul Carbery, PC Nicola Jackson and Sue Saddoo all displayed a strong and enthusiastic performance.

In his first National Championships event, PC Carbery came away with two gold Medals which was an outstanding achievement. PC Render (whose martial art Is normally Ju-jitsu) won gold in one of the categories and competed well against

Experienced Judo players.

The jitsu club will end the year attending our affiliated body, (the jitsu foundation), national championships in Telford in November.

The club remains strong with 20 regular members. 2007 has been a successful year for the LANCON JITSU AND JUDO  CLUB and sure to be a prosperous new year with more gold when mersyside host the 2008 PSUK JUDO NATIONALS

Anyone wishing to join the Lancon Club or just to have a look can contact the club sec James Saddoo PS 3862  via e-mail

The Lancashire Constabulary Jitsu club has continued to develop over the past year. Highlight of the year was attending the PSUK Judo Championships 2004 at Cheshire where we represented the Constabulary at a number of levels. Although we are not strictly a Judo club, PSUK were happy to accept us and we acquitted ourselves well. PC Lister Worthington won bronze medals in the open kyu and the 95kg kyu events.

In other competitions, we attended the 2004 Jiu Jitsu National competition where PC Worthington won gold medal in the Open category and DC Horton won bronze medal in the 100kg+ category.

We have arranged and enjoyed club visits from various notable martial artists over the year.

PC Matt Clempner from Greater Manchester taught a session in December 2004. PC Clempner is a former Olympic wrestler and holds black belts in a number of martial arts including Judo. As a result of this visit, a number of club members have been invited to attend a training event with the British Police Judo Team in April 2005.

We were visited by Morecambe Jiu Jitsu club who practice a different style of Jiu Jitsu. Their visit was led by their septuagenarian head of style Hanshi Bill who taught a session that was well received by all those who attended.

Sensei Mark McNally, a retired Jiu Jitsu teacher and legendary practitioner from Yorkshire was coaxed out of retirement to teach an extended session hosted by the Lancon club and attended by around 50 Jiu Jitsu students from as far away as Cheshire and Carlisle.

Sensei Richard Goulding who is a 3rd Dan black belt with our governing body, The Jitsu Foundation, also took a monitoring session and was very happy with the development and standard of the club.

We continue to maintain strong links with Preston Town Jiu Jitsu Club and University of Central Lancashire Jiu Jitsu Club. In particular, Sensei Dhiren Patel from the Preston Town Club has been extremely helpful in assisting us with training and preparation for grading events.

Our membership continues to grow with about a dozen regular club members including both sworn staff and civilian employees attending our weekly sessions. We have held a beginners night during 2004 and further events have been planned to ensure that all members of the Constabulary are aware of the opportunity to learn Jiu Jitsu.

The section attended the 2003 Police Sport championships in August but no report has been received. No 2004 budget applied for and I understand the secretary has no plans to organise any participation this coming year.
