Event Summary 2012

PSUK Cross Country Championships – Guildford, Surrey – Wednesday 22 February 2012

This is the first PSUK event of the year that has hopefully kick-started you into taking part in the many other police fixtures during 2012. Please read on and prepare to whet your appetite!!………

PSUK Orienteering Championships – Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire – Wednesday 21 March 2012

This event takes place in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. There are varied courses for male, female, veteran and novice runners. These range from circa 5k to 8k in distance. So if you fancy some 'cunning running' in the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside then get yourself entered!

PSUK ‘Sporting Super Stars’ – Hopton-on-Sea - Norfolk – Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 May 2012

Are you fit enough to be the ‘UK’s Toughest Cop’? This is a relatively new official PSUK event that involves individuals competing in a series of disciplines. Each UK Police Force may enter at least one male and one female competitor and anyone eligible to compete in PSUK events may take part. The events include - Sprinting - Indoor Rowing - Archery - Shooting – Ball Throw - Bleep Test - Gym Tests - Orienteering - Climbing Wall. Staged over two days, the competition culminates with a gala dinner, prize presentation and cabaret evening in conjunction with the annual PSUK Indoor Sports events.

British Police Fell Race – Turnslack, Littleborough, GMP – Wednesday 16 May 2012

This year the event will take place over the Turnslack Fells. The 9 mile course will offer some excellent running terrain over these interesting, lesser known hills. All competitors need to have mountain navigation experience and carry certain kit during the race. A post race meal will take place after the event.

PSUK Track & Field Championships – Inverness, Northern Constabulary - Wednesday 30 May 2012

There must be an event here to suit every athlete. The competition take place from 11am through to 5pm with presentation of medals throughout the day. The following track and field events will be contested:

PSUK Tug of War Championships – Inverness, Northern Constabulary - Wednesday 30 May 2012

Held on the same day as the Track & Field, teams of nine will battle it out in a series of different weight competitions held throughout the day. The PSUK are looking to encourage more force teams to take part. Athletes are asked to contact members of their respective force rugby teams to attract interest.

Snowdonia 7 Team Fell Race - North Wales – Saturday 7 July 2012

Taking place early due to the Olympics, this event requires four members running together as a team, each member providing encouragement to one another over this gruelling 22 mile course that traverses around 8000 feet ascent over seven of the highest Snowdonia Mountains. This is not an official PSUK event but has always been popular among police runners.

PSUK 5K and 10K Race Walking Championships – West Midlands –  Wednesday 19 September 2012

This is a flat tarmac course around Canon Hill Park, Edgbaston comprising 5K for ladies and 10k for men. More runners are taking to this ‘alternative’ athletic sport as a supplement to their annual sporting calendar. An interesting and tasty buffet meal at the nearby ‘Tally Ho Club’ follows the race with presentation of prizes for individual and teams.

PSUK 10 Mile Road Race Championships – Sandringham, Norfolk – Wednesday 26 September 2012

This event is always popular with PSUK runners. The course takes place within the Sandringham Estate so this is a race not to be missed. Being Norfolk the course has to be flat and PB potential but don't take my word for it!

PSUK Marathon Championships – St.Helier, Jersey – Sunday 7 October 2012

This is the first time the PSUK have held their marathon in the Channel Islands.  The event is incorporated within the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon and overall attracts around 400 runners. Competitors should consider booking flights to Jersey as well as accommodation on the island. Entries should be made direct with the PSUK Athletics Section website. Book your flights early to avoid disappointment. Easyjet seem to offer the best deals from most UK airports.

So, what are you waiting for? Further detailed information and entry forms for all of the above events can be found on the official Police Sport UK Athletics Website at:
