About The Runner

Steven Broadbent

The Story So Far

I was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK in 1959 and most of my family now live in the Darwen area.

Married to Anne and have one surrogate child, border collie, Cass. We live near the Howgill Fells near Sedbergh, Cumbria, UK.

Schools

Attended St Stephen's primary, Blackburn until 1968 then transferred to St James's primary, Lower Darwen until 1970. Attended Billinge High, Blackburn 1970 to 1975.

Brief Career History

Left Billinge in 1975 and worked at Newman's Footwear in Blackburn as a trainee. Joined the Lancashire Police Cadets the following year then appointed as a police constable in 1978.

I have been a uniformed, operational policeman for most of my service.

Previous police postings include:

Uniform patrol duties at Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and Heysham

Traffic Patrol Duties

Coroner's Officer

Community Volunteers Coordinator

December 2007

I retired from the Lancashire Constabulary as a Police Constable on 31 December 2007 having served 30 years as a constable. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the force and have never looked back!

On 1 January 2008 I rejoined the force as a Special Constable. I felt I still had something to give to the organisation that I have been very proud to be a member of since 1976.

Being a Special Constable meant that I could continue my role as a police officer but simply do not get paid. As a staff member I am able to continue my other role as a volunteer Sports Club Secretary and work on from my base at Carnforth Police Station.

The Future

Though I hope to continue my voluntary work with the police I would also like to pursue a role as a film and TV extra. Whether this leads to a career in acting is another thing but my 1st cousin is Dora Bryan. Therefore acting runs in the family and it is perhaps from this where I develop my interest!

Past Times

I am secretary and treasurer of my police sports club and an active participant of the club's Athletics Section and Northern Police Cross Country League.

Into all kinds of running related sports - particularly fell, marathon and ultra running.

I am also a rail enthusiast and have a particular interest in past and present diesel and electric traction both at home and abroad.
