Stratford-Upon-Avon - Incorporating the Police Sport UK Annual Championships
Sunday, 7 May 2006 starting at 10.00 am
A five strong Lancashire Constabulary team were triumphant in the 2006 PSUK Marathon when they scooped the first team prize and Mike Riley was first in the individual open and veteran classes. Ian Pudge was placed 4th male and Steve Broadbent was 3rd veteran 40+.
The race started at 10am with cloudy but humid conditions. As the morning progressed the clouds broke and the temperature rose into the 70's. This did not stop Central Division's Mike Riley running a tremendous race finishing 2nd in the overall Shakespeare Marathon event in 2 hours 46 minutes. Mike, 40 years, won the Police Sport UK open race and also the veteran 40+ class.
Burnley's Ian Pudge ran his debut marathon and finished in a tremendous 'sub 3' time of 2 hours 59 minutes. Northern Division's Steve Broadbent and Eastern's Simon Banfield having run in the London Marathon two weeks earlier both ran good races in 3.21 and 3.26 respectively. Headquarters based Inspector Neil Hunter also ran an excellent time of 3.26.
A presentation of awards and prizes took place following the event in the Stratford Manor Hotel.
Mike Riley has now been put forward to compete in the 2006 European Police Marathon Championships (USPE) to be held in Turkey in November.
