Northern Police Cross Country League

Welcome to the

Northern Police Cross Country and Trail Leagues

The League formed in July 1967 and for over 57 years has attracted runners from most of the police forces across the north of England.

The league now stages 11/12 fixtures each season that starts in early October through to late March. Each fixture attracts between 25 and 80 runners.

In recent years the league has gone from strength to strength, despite the pressures of securing time-off from police duties. We have recently added an 11th and 12th fixture that add a better chance to attend the FIVE required fixtures to score maximum points!

Due too falling numbers we decided to suspend the 'Trail' League. It was felt that we may have too many fixtures on offer but will simply continue to 'boulster' the original Winter Cross Country League.

Next Fixture #4 - Dalemain - Cumbria

Wednesday 12 November 2025 starting at 1.30pm

Directions - Dalemain, Penrith - CA11 0HB

Thank you to Graham Chadwick for hosting Fixture #4 in Cumbria. Parking and toilets at the venue. A three-lap course around park and woodland. One or two gentle hills. Register in the car-park with Graham. Food and drink available in the cafe after the event.

Following Fixture #5 - Keepmoat Stadium - South Yorkshire

Wednesday 26 November 2025 - 1.30pm start.

Directions - Keepmoat Stadium - Stadium Way - Doncaster DN4 5JW

Thank you to Andy Lakeland for staging Fixture #5 at Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster. It will be the usual three-lap course over a number of small hillocks close to the stadium. Parking and toilets provided. Register at the stadium changing rooms door. This is a North and Midlands combined fixture so we expect around 70 runners. Coffee and cakes provided in the car-park afterthe race.

Following Fixture #6 - Allestree Park - Derbyshire

Wednesday 10 December 2025 - 1.30pm start.

Directions - Allestree Park, Duffield Road, Derby DE22 2EU

Thank you to Shaun Bott and his team for hosting this event at Allestree Park. This is a Midlands and Northern League combined fixture and will attract up to 70 runners. It is the usual course around the park. A very testing and often boggy course offering to nice XC running. Start and finish by the Hall with parking and toilets provided. Some post-race snacks provided in the car-park after the race.

NPCCL Fixture #3 - Spud Wood, Cheshire

Congratulations to Jack Pilkington and his team from Cheshire for hosting another fabulous fixture at Spud Wood. The six-mile course provided everyone with a challenging three-lap course with lots of interesting twists and turns.

There were over 30 runners taking part. Well done to Rob Grantham and Natalie Iddon, first male and female home. Both ran a fantastic race.

A special mention goes to Edward Balfour, making his debut appearance maybe the youngest NPCCL entry at 15 years. Well done to Edward, 58 minutes, great running!

The Lancashire Team got snarled up in a serious accident traffic-queue on the M6 for nearly two hours! However, the team of six were able to start at 2.15. Their results have been recorded and incorporated within the main race results.

Thanks also to the course marshals for stopping back to guide the late runners.

Great hospitality was provided at the Barn Owl after the race. There was even some food saved for Team Lancon!

Finally Laura Lawler picks up first prize for best Halloween Fancy Dress! Well done Laura!

If you wish to participate in the League please contact your Force representative who will liaise with you over transport to attend each fixture or you may chose to travel direct.

We now have an entry system and you may enter either up to six or all 12 fixtures at the start of the season. Just follow the Book it Zone links below.

It is possible to enter your own local 'Host' fixture and not compete in the other fixtures. You will just need to pay £4 on-line or on the day. If you intend to enter more than one fixture then we ask you complete a six or 12 fixture on-line entry.
