Thank you to Simon Fricke for hosting the first fixture of the season at York yesterday. A good turn-out from almost 30 runners made it a great start to the new season. A fast and firm course and some great post-race hospitality after the race.

Race Report and Results

Thanks to everyone who attended today. We had 36 attendees which is magnificent!!

Fine, sunny weather greeted our runners who enjoyed a quite muddy, testing three-lap course.

Some great performances with 1st male/female, Robert Sparkes (Humberside) and Lisa Grantham (Cheshire)

Making their debut appearances were 16 Year Olds - Ben Grantham (Cheshire) and Alfie Bundy (GMP) placed 4th and 5th overall!! Great to see young family members running in our races.

A great post-race gathering in the car-park in the afternoon sun with Halloween Donuts and Choc Chip Cookies rounded the afternoon off nicely.

Thank you to Sue Harrison, Janine Fallon and Jim O'Donnell for their timekeeping and marshal support.

The next fixture is hosted by Cheshire on 15 November.

Thank you to Andy Lakeland and Gary Durham for hosting another great South Yorkshire Fixture. Cold, crisp sunny weather greeted the 70 plus competitors from the North and Midlands Leagues.

There were some tremendous performances over a challenging, three-lap muddy course with the usual 24 short but steep hill climbs.

Robert Sparkes from Humberside had an electrifying performance winning the race some three minutes ahead of the 2nd placed Midlands runner, Marcus Williams (RAF). Paige Roadley Nottinghamshire, was first lady with Laura Lawler (Lancashire)first Northern League lady.

Thank you also to Graham Curtis, Jim O’Donnell and Steve Brock for time-keeping and marshal support.

The coffee and muffins went down well after the race, and I think all in all a great afternoon was had by everyone.

Fixture 5 - 13 December 2023 -Derbyshire

Thanks to Shamus Bott and his team from Derbyshire for staging an excellent fixture at Allestree Park yesterday.

What a tough course! The two-lap, 5.25 mile course - with some changes from last year - lived up to it's expectations! With added mud and water crossings it gave everyone a remarkable experience!

Though numbers from the Northern League were low, Rob Sparkes from Humberside won the race outright, some TWO minutes ahead of the following Midlands and Services runners!

Rob Sparkes and Lisa Grantham (Cheshire) win a well earned bottle of Fizz for 1st Northern Male and Female.

Well done to Anna Sykes for making a good effort with her Christmas attire! Next year I will raise the bar and put up some Bottles of Fizz fancy dress prizes on offer!

Fixture 7 – 24 January 2024 - Peter Pan Park, Hull, Humberside

A big thank you to Andrew Guest, Carl Horth and his team of helpers and supporters for staging a fantastic fixture at Peter Pan Park yesterday.

We had a field of over 60 runners kindly supported by local running Clubs and the Humberside Fire Service.

Some excellent performances with Robert Sparkes (Humberside Police) and Lisa Grantham (Cheshire Police) first male and female. Our youngest runner, aged 14, Oliver Frary (Fire Service - Family Member) finished in a remarkable 3rd place. (Probably the youngest runner we have ever had competing in our league)

An excellent course, though the conditions were tough! The three-lap, 5,8 mile course was wet and claggy making for some difficult running in places, but overall, a most enjoyable run!

Final Results - 2023/2024 Season!

Here are the final scores on the doors after a tremendous season! One or two of the original prize categories awarded after the race on Wednesday have changed slightly. This is as I explained, that it is to ensure that all the 'age' categories are filed one way or another.

So runners may well qualify for two prizes but will only take one. This is to allow a fair distribution of prizes overall. Without having my computer to hand soon after the race it isn't always easy to determine precise final position.

In short, all those who completed FIVE fixtures qualified for a prize this year!

Team Results

The team results were close and it was down to the last race to decide 1st and 2nd. The difference was a matter of one point!

1st Mixed Team - Cheshire

2nd Mixed Team - Humberside

3rd Mixed Team - Lancashire

Best Attendance of the Season

To make up for Humberside coming team runner-up, they undoubtedly provided the best attendance at all 11 races this season:

1st Humberside - 97 Attendees - Spot Prize Awarded

2nd - Lancashire 69 Attendees

3rd - Cheshire 41 Attendees
