36th British Police Fell Race
Championships 2026

Wednesday 20 May 2026 - Starting at 1.30pm

From Edale, Derbyshire

35th British Police Fell Race - Final Report

Well there we have it! From the feedback received so far it seems we have achieved another successful Police Fell-Race, along with the highest number of runners and police forces represented. 160 entered, 134 started from 33 Forces. Everyone finished!

Thank you for all the positive feedback about the event. This is much appreciated.

We had predominantly fine, cool weather with the odd shower but all in all visibility on the tops was magnificent.

Thank You's

Thank you to Derbyshire for hosting the seven-mile course over some lovely fell terrain. Karl Webster, Shaun Bott and Ian Phillips and their team.

A big thank you to all the marshals and helpers. They are all named in the results and below, but alongside Derbyshire members, I was pleased to have the usual great support from my Lancashire Team, as well as members from GMP and Cleveland. Without this team the event could not take place.

The Newfold Farm Management were also fantastic and accommodating. All of the facilities were ideal and perfect.

The Race

Some great running from Rob Sparkes( Humberside) 1st male, winning the title a second year. We have a new lady champion, Francesca Kearney (CNC Cumbria) Chris Newman (Cumbria) is our Male Veteran Champion and Kate Alp (Metropolitan) our Lady Veteran Champion. All four won our special food hamper prizes.

It was good to see a Police Scotland runner, Mary Coll who also won a spot prize. This is the first runner we have had from Police Scotland for some years.

Great feedback about the post-race food. Delicious pizza and salad rounded up the day nicely.

BPFR 2027

If anyone is interested in proposing a venue for 2027 please contact me. We like to stage it in different places each year, so if anyone has an interesting and new venue in mind please come forward.

May I wish you and injury free year going forward and hope to see you next year - wherever that might be!

Results - 160 Entries - 134 Start/Finishers - 33 UK Forces - At 20/05/2026

Map and Course

Distance - 7 Miles (10.7km)

Ascent circa 2250 ft (684m)

A map is displayed on the website and shows a proposed route. There may be some changes once we have fully recced the area. Any updates will be notified including checkpoints.

Route Description

The course is circular, clockwise route. It has some fairly rugged steep ascents and descents. See above map.

Maps, Check-Points and Waymarks

A printed map will be provided. The course is considered as a fairly tough, rugged fell terrain. It will be fully way-marked with flags. This is to ensure everyone runs the same course and does not get lost. This said, all competitors must still carry the map provided and be prepared to navigate themselves should flags go missing or in bad weather.

Portable Sat Nav Devices

Sat Nav devices /mobile phones are permitted and may be used as a back-up to your given map but not relied upon to navigate.. Hard copy map provided should be carried throughout the race.

Novice Runners Challenge

We would like to encourage novice runners to take part in these events. Though the event is traditionally a 'race' it can also be titled as a 'Challenge' and can be run/walked at a progressive pace.

The cut-off time is a generous 4 hours or 5.30pm. This would make it attractive to athletes wishing to complete the course at a steady, but progressive and continuous run/walking pace.

Note: The Prize presentation will take place around 4.00pm so likely that walkers will miss the presentation but refreshments and finishing mementos will be still available when you finish.

Competing in Pairs or a Group

There is no objection to competitors completing the course together as a pair or even a group. Each member would enter individually and receive a race number and carry the same kit.

Compulsory Kit Requirement

Competitors will need to carry all of the following equipment:-

1. Waterproof top and bottom body cover

2. Copy Map (Provided)

3. Compass and Whistle

4. Hat and Gloves

5. Suitable footwear for fell running

6. Emergency Food

This is the kit list, irrespective of good weather.

Each competitor should have navigational skills and be able to use a map and compass if required.

Kit Checks

Compulsory kit checks will be carried out at registration so please ensure you carry the required kit as outlined above. Any required kit found missing at the end of the race will incur a 30-minute t. Preime penalty or possibly disqualification. Random kit checks will also be made at the finish.

Entry Field

Entry limit is 130, though late, EOD or substitution of an entered runner, is still an option for forces who have already entered a team before the closing date. Please note that entries received after the 130 limit or on day will be accepted but those runners may not receive a pre-ordered race memento.
