Marathon Championships 2025

Sunday 12 October 2025

Incorporated in the Bath Marathon

Results and Report

A big thank-you to Katherine Willoughby for organising another great PSUK Marathon Event!

What a great PSUK Marathon Championships! I really enjoyed running this course, albeit too flat for me! It was also great to have our own 'Wave Start' that enabled PSUK runners to meet up at the start as well as identify their competition!

The contra-flow course also enabled runners to see their team mates pass in each direction which was a bonus in some ways.

The passing steam train service was also interesting and a great, quite unusual medal to finish too!

Report by Katherine - PSUK Athletics Section.....

This year Relish Running, Bath & Bristol Railway Marathon were host to our championship. The event village and start area were situated in Green Park in the centre of Bath.

The weather conditions were perfect with around 11 degrees and very limited breeze. With a later start of 1000 hours the air was slightly warmer.

Athletes embarked on an out and back flat course running initially alongside the River Avon out of the city then along the Avon and Kennet canal before merging onto the old railway line heading towards Bristol. The two long tunnels provided an interesting section.

The atmosphere was fun and friendly with a great vibe around the event. An initial 100 metres was added to ensure the correct distance which was a quick loop around the park at the start. This gave athletes at chance to spread out before heading off along the path towards the river and of course time for spectators to cheer everyone on.

Other distance events were also taking place so there was plenty to watch, encourage and congratulate.

First place across the line was Jason Bennett, West Midlands in 2.35.14 followed by 2nd place Michael Illot from Northumbria in 2.37.31 and 3rd place went to Andrew Smith, West Midlands in 2.44.12.

First woman home was Tara Malone from PSNI in 3.15.12, 2nd was Clare Foreman, North Wales in 3.31.09 and 3rd place Rachel Walsh from South Wales in 3.31.34.

West Midlands had a strong team making a clear victory in the Overall Team Award with a cumulative time of 8.15.33.

We are pleased to announce that the 2025 PSUK Marathon Championships will take place within the Relish Running Bath and Bristol Railway Marathon on Sunday 12th October 2025. This marathon was new to the event calendar last year and provides a unique experience running along a disused railway line with miles of tunnels and classic scenery. Due to the geography it provides a flat and fast out and back course. This may be an excellent opportunity to seek a new PB. Bath is the start location and it’s a stunning historical city so you may wish to stay for a few days and/or bring the family and supporters.

For those wishing to be considered, this marathon will be used as a selection race for next year’s 2026 European Police Championships. Further details are below.

LocationGreen Park, Bath, BA1 1HZ - NO ON SITE PARKING. What3Words /// snow.volume.orange. Consider using the park and ride or booking a hotel within walking distance of race start. https://visitbath.co.uk/plan-your-visit/travel-information/park-and-ride-in-bath

Bath has a railway station in the city centre. The nearest airport is Bristol. The city centre has a Ulez fee of £9. Please check if your vehicle is required to pay this fee.

PSUK may be given a separate wave but this will be dependent on entry numbers. More information will be given nearer the race day but our start time would be around the time of the other marathon wave times. Please enter your predicted time.

PSUK Athletes will be required to collect a wrist band at the half way turnaround point. Failure to collect this will result in a DQ.

Due to feedback after last years’ race I am looking at the possibility of a massage therapist facility after the race. This will be on a first come 1st served basis.

Once you have read the marathon details and you wish to enter this must be done following a 2 stage process. .
