West Midlands Police Sports & Social Club will be hosting the Police Sport UK Cross Country Championships for the season 2012-2013 on Wednesday 20th March 2013 at Cofton Park, Low Hill Lane, Longbridge, Birmingham, B31 2BQ.

The Ladies race will be over 8km (2 laps) commencing at 1-00pm and the men’s race over 12km (3 laps) and will commence at 2-00pm. (This is the same venue as the UK Inter-counties championships due to be held on the 9th March 2013, BUT NOT over the same course). The course at Cofton Park is mainly grass parkland with some inclines and descents. However it is an excellent spectator course.

There will be Marquees to change in, however shower facilities are not available on site but anyone wishing to shower may use the facilities at Tally Ho! There is only a very small parking area within the park and this will be used by contractor’s vehicles. Competitors parking are requested to be on the perimeter road of the park, i.e. Low Hill Lane and are asked to park on the road adjacent to the park itself.

Below you will find a team entry sheet. Please complete a separate sheet for the ladies and one for the men. The race entry fee is £12 per competitor. If you are entering veteran athletes (Ladies over 35 and men over 40 years on the day of the event) please ensure that you correctly indicate their age category. This cannot be changed on the day of the event.

Also is a team manager’s entry sheet which should be completed in full.

Please return your entry by e-mail or by post to Richard Cupper at the addresses as shown on the team entry and managers sheet. As noted on the entry forms, the closing date for entries is Wednesday 20th February 2013. NO LATE ENTRIES will be accepted so please ensure you contact myself if there are any issues with your entries or payments.

Registration will be at Cofton Park on the morning of the race.  All athletes will be issued with two numbers at registration (one front & one back); safety pins will be issued but if competitors have their own supply you are more than welcome to bring them with you.

The evening function will take place at West Midlands Police Sports Club, Tally Ho! Pershore Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B5 7RN. The evening function will cost £20 per head and the number of those attending must be completed on the Team Manager’s Sheet. Tickets will be issued for the meal and will be collected by the Team Managers on arrival at registration. If attendees have no ticket for the evening function they will not be permitted entrance to the dinner. If you have athletes in your team who have dietary requirements then please complete the attached form also.

The designated hotel is the Paragon Hotel, 145 Alcester Street, Birmingham, B12 0PJ. Transportation will be provided from the designated hotel to the evening function only. Competitors who stay at the alternative hotels will not have transportation provided.

Any team wishing to have transport arranged from Birmingham International Airport to the hotel designated should indicate so and will be contacted by Richard Cupper at a later date.

Medals will be presented as follows. Plus the appropriate trophies. (Subject to them being returned). Team Managers whose athletes won trophies at Guilford last March are asked to ensure that the trophies are returned in a clean condition for presentation and fully engraved.

Race results will be available in the function room WMP Sports & Social Club, Tally Ho, Pershore Road, Edgbaston Birmingham B5 7RN immediately after the prize presentation.  

For your information UKA guidance for competitors is that all your athletes are responsible for their own safety before, during and after the race. This includes the wearing of suitable clothing and footwear as appropriate for the conditions. Runners should have up-to-date tetanus injections. Athletes are advised to write any medical conditions on the back of their race number in permanent ink in case of any emergency.
