Pre-Event itinerary
We are pleased to confirm that Cumbria will host the 2009 Police Sport UK Cross Country Championships at Lowther Park near Penrith, Cumbria on Wednesday 11th March 2009.
Race Venue
The race will take part in the grounds of Lowther Estate, set in the beautiful and splendid undulating grounds of Lowther Castle and alongside the River Lowther. The course will be a mixture of field, single track, forest trail and gentle hills. It will be suitable for any foot wear including spikes and studs. Distances will be approx 6k for women and 10k for men.
Accommodation
Accommodation for competitors will be available on a first come first serve basis at the Race HQ which will be the Shap Wells Hotel, Shap which we will have sole use of. The hotel is set in its own grounds and is approx 2miles from M6 J39, 13 miles from venue and 15 miles from Penrith. There are also rooms reserved at the Clifton Hotel, Clifton which is approx 9 miles from M6 J39 but 2 miles from venue and 4 miles from Penrith. It is requested each force deals directly with the hotels and settles their accounts with the hotel.
Prizes
Prize giving will be at 5pm at the Shap Wells Hotel followed by dinner and the social event from 8pm onwards. Smart but casual attire is requested. The meal will be a hot buffet with vegetarian option, followed by a disco and bar extension until 1am. It is imperative that the evening meal is booked on the attached forms.
Locality
The nearest town is Penrith which is a market town with good rail and motorway links. The nearest airport is Carlisle Airport approx 20 miles away. Penrith has limited night life midweek but a good selection of pubs and eateries catering for most tastes.
Shap is a small village with a smaller section of pubs and eateries.
Directions
Travel details will be sent out nearer the time.
A shuttle bus will be provided to and from Penrith Railway Station and the Airport if required and for those forces requiring transport to and from the race venue. Any force requiring picking up will need to provide details of rail / flights times and numbers etc and a contact mobile number.
Registration
Those forces arriving on Tuesday 10th, registration will be from 1pm onwards at the Shap Wells Hotel until around 9pm. For those arriving on the Wednesday, registration will be at the Shap Wells Hotel from 9 to 11am and then at Lowther Park from 11am onwards.
Entries and Closing Date
Please note this is a 'closed event'. No entries will be accepted on the day. No guest runners will be allowed.
Payment must be sent with the forms. E.Mail copies will be accepted until paper confirmation is received. The closing date is Monday 19 January 2009
